to my wife...she has a 2k1 alero...which is paid for(thanx mom)...that is getting sold asap...now i just need to decide what i am gonna get...first thought 1st gen neon...will hold 22 psi of boost...and i can get one for around 3k...8k left over...be able to put well over 300whp into that car...give my wife...the daily driver flosser car...and myself a corvette killin' four cylinder...any other ideas on project cars...12k max on car and mods...want to be over 300-325 hp...thanks in advance

 

1G DSM 2k for the car 10k in mods will give you well over 400hp and keep it reliable as well. Make sure its a turbo model before you buy it.

 

If you got the time and patience, get a Galant VR4.
Four doors, well built, reliable and the awesome TC 4G63 under the hood with 4WD.
The car also looks a helluva lot better than the Neon, IMHO.

Datsun 240/260/280 and drop the Chevy big block LT1 in it. Power to weight ratio can't be matched, plus if you have left over skrilla you can either turbo, twin turbo, or supercharge it. Plus the old datsuns will be around 1k in good shape

 

Easy choice man. Buy a 5.0!!! You can get a well decent one for under 5k plus you still have 7k to put in it... My sister's fiance bought a 5.0 in germany for like 6k and put 6k into it. He smokes all kinds of cars on the autobahns. He can go 130 in 3rd and has never topped it off yet. Now thats some power. =)

 

Datsun 510, SR20DET swap or if more easily available CA18DET. [expensive engine and mounting process, cheap chassis]

Civic EG or EK chassis, B16 (cheaper and should be easier to come across than the 18, with pretty much the same upgradeability), and Mugen-fy the bish if possible. [Cheap chassis, "easy" drop, copious cash for hot cams, manifolds, etc]

Those would be my choices off the top of my head...

 

89 to 98 Nissan 240sx - $2500 to $6000
do a SR20DET swap - $3000ish
300zx rear end - ??? (earlier 240sxs do not have lsd - and you probably want to do a brake upgrade too)
turbo upgrade if you have the cash left

for $12k you can have a world beater rwd 2 seat sports coupe
