Mitsubishi CEO confirms US Lancer Evolution
I haven't driven a new M3 but several old model ones one which was tuned to 350bhp and all of the M3s are more refined, but compared to the Evo, slow as $$$$ with a capital F. My friend who had all the M3s now has an RS4 with 420bp and that is also slower than my Evo (350bhp) up to about 100mph. Handling-wise all the cars mentioned above aren't even in the same league as the standard Evo suspension and when you uprate the Evo suspension they aren't even playing the same game. Again, if anyone is looking for a cheaper M3, don't get an Evo, it's a lot more radical.

I used to own a 3,2litre M3 (E36). Modified obviously with chip, exhaust, air filter and short gearing from AC Schnitzer. Had Bilstein suspensions as well. Now that was one SLOW POS! Ok I drifted through all the corners and passengers thought I was going fast because it slid from the back, but the actual speed of the car was so ridiculous I always had to check the rear view mirror in case an Integra wanted to pass me... And that M3 had 325 bhp (they were supposed to have 321 std, but mine only had 308 before mapping, and 324,8 afterwards). I know in the US they are less powerful, please dont start an argument about that.
I tried the new supposedly 343 hp 3,3litre or so E46 BMW M3 a few months ago when they had a trial car going around France. Now if that car has 343 hp, then where the fück are they? The brakes fade so bad you cant drive around here, suspension is so spongy that it must have been from the American version
and the clutch slipped in 3rd gear at 5,500 rpms. That car had done 5,000 km at that time.
Very nice leather, seats, excellent interior quality and elliptic design. I recommend it to you, what was your name?, comfort seeking person? GPS, heatable seats, sunroof, etc. Very nice. And very slow. But expensive. Oh, and, I promise, it will break if used hard. Mine did.

OK, OK, I don't want this to turn into an Evo vs. M3 thread.
I'm just bringing up the fit and finish vs. cost issue. Hopefully, the cost wil be reasonable so the car will sell beyond the hardcore performance enthusiasts who could care less about rattles and road noise.
In any event, I'm very excited.

those who don't know how to drive would like to buy a porsche, a bmw, an audi to be seen like they drive fast, but if its a real performance car you like, a real fast car, it is an evo that you need!

:soapbox:
In response to the STI question, it will be in the US in 2004. About the M3, it's a great car. But it also weighs almost 400lbs MORE than a EVO 7 GSR. And it ain't that slow. I mean, the EVO is faster, but the M3 is respectable. They had that race (I forget where I saw it, and the only car to beat the EVO 7 was an M5, and I think the M5 was modified.) Anyone know which race I'm talking about? There was also some video where the EVO 7 beat every car in the race it was in. But, the 8000 RPM redline in the M3 does sound pretty sweet. Just my .02.

that wasn't a typo, to be "seen" not "seem" and read on previous posts!
