help on flip flop trunk
i seen wiscoshowoff02's car today in person and the flip flop trunk that he has that i was skeptical about looks a hell of a lot better in person.......it looks 1000 percent better....its hard to see the hinges and the custom trunk stops are a must otherwise your trunk will sit funny when its open
It only looks ghetto cuzza that silly bar hangin out with the rubber ends taped on, and you got the hinge bent.
You got the right idea tho.
I made mine as well the same way, even with the lock-latches, HOWEVER remove that silly bar and place rubber bushings on the trunk lids inside wall, so that when it closes itll hit the bar correctly, thats how you do it cleanly, OR another way is to apply a bar of angle iron straight across the lid about an inch over the hindges tips.
Then when it closes, the bar will "block" against the springy lifter parts on each side.

See here... No ugly rubber bar thing.
(...but there is an ugly butchered carpet thing ...Its been replaced.)

That is nice.
i don't see the function in that trunk...
it really doesn't look that good and it's not very functional either...
It WOULD be cool, if the trunk came out the opposite. Instead of going out and up, it'll come toward you and down.
now that would be something you could use. Use as a bench for when you're tired, eat off of it, etc.
lol

CityKnight do u have better pics of what u did instead or can u point it out on your pics cause i think this is awsome. i have thought about it for a while since i saw it on ebay.
Aright, here ya go... I should put this in the HOW-TO section, but I cant really explain how-to the way Id like to, so youll have to see, analyze, and mimick this time.
I dont remember what sizes I used either.
(Just use a tape measure, or estimate, its not difficult to figure out.)
Sorry I wasnt thinkin' and didnt take pics in the process.
I did use the locking nuts tho btw...
Place the lock in the right spot where the lid gives some space protruding. It will be a bit tilted inwards, so use some washers. Mark the spot where the lock will latch into with a Sharpie. I actually Painted the tip of the Latch and locked so it would make an exact spot on the bar. Do that.
As you'll see, you will have to bore the hole for the lock yourself. TIP: Dremmel !
Use a Rubber Bushing like that of a Skateboard Truck (Do-Do's) as the stopper, so it tilts just right, and straight w/ a cushion.
(Hmm... I should get a nice new White bushing, come to think of it.)
Some people bolt a bar of angle iron all the way across the thing, but I thought that was to bulky and ghetto lookin'. I prefer subtle.
At the Lid, you will have to drill holes for the bolts, in order for the hinges to line up in the proper place neatly. Also Important... There are washers inside the lid, on the bolt through the top hinges. Stick your fingers in the original big hole on the lid to hold 'em as you place the bolt in. I think there were 10 small washers on an individual bolt. This way itll be straight and wont bend the hinge like Wiscoshowoff02's (No offense in using yours as an example, I dont think you meant it to be sloppy looking as if youre careless, but you prolly just didnt think of this way. Its all good man
