Repainting Rear Drum Disk

I want to do it this weekend, but they look rusted from when i had the stock wheels on there, but was painted a silver color..since i changed wheels it dont cover the whole drum as stock used to so i want to repaint it black and possibly send down the rust if possible....can someone tell me if sand paper to rust is the best way to go, and what type of sand paper should be used...wet/dry/grit...

i just did mine. used fine grit sand paper, primer, then black engine paint. Seemed to do the trick.

Make sure you give it plenty of time to dry between coats though.

I used a fine wire brush to scrape of the rust, then I sanded the drum down. Then I used the wire brush again to get the spots I missed, washed it down with some soap and water, then used sand paper to make it smooth again. I took High Temperature Paint and sprayed the drums, waited 30 mins and gave it a second coat. It looks nice, I have some pics if you wanna see.

Buy this stuff called Naval Jelly. Its a rust dissolver. Use a wire brush to get all the big rust flakes off then put a coat of the naval jelly on. LKeave it for ten minutes and repeat untill the majority of the rust is gone. Then go over it with sandpaper. I used VHT Brake And Caliper Paint. Its a satin black so it looks really stock. Figure its made for brakes so it must last longer than using the engine one...

what tools were used to take off rear drum? and if taken off wouldn't it be easier to paint while it's off?

it seems it would be easier to paint with it off. it was easy for me.

all you need is a hammer.
jack up the car, remove the wheel. then go press the brake a few times, pump the hand brake a bit, (this will release brake pressure) then give the drum a few wacks from side to side with the hammer, and it will come right off.

then just sand and paint.

Or you could buy the bolts that are actually made for the removal...Anyone know the size off hand? I just brought in one of my old calipers. The thread and size is the same on the fronts and rears.
