Flocked Dash?
Flocked Dash?
Just a question: I've been browsing the forums and i've seen an EVO with that flocked dash fuzz to prevent glare (typically found in WRC cars etc) and I was wondering how this is done, if it comes in a kit or something and whether I can get some for my car? Before I picked up my car from the dealership, they detailed it (good) but they armour-all-ed the dash (bad) and now I can't barely see the freaking outside past the glare from the snow and sun! Anyone with info, please let me know, although it was implied that it's quite expensive...

There is an Armour-All with low-glare. In fact, I saw some at Big Lots the other day... It's basically a discount store; not sure what equal you have up north. Only a couple bucks!
It's not necessary just get a micro fiber towel and take that sh*t off your dash. After that don't EVER use Armor All again nor should you let anyone put it on your car. It's crap. Once it is cleaned off just use a microfiber to dust off the interior and leave it at that.

Well, i'm not really trying to get that furry 'look' per se but rather get that furry surface for the dash because it reduces glare. The armour all causes huge amounts of glare from the dash and the sun is very intense this time of year where I live. The flocked fabric (or whatever it is) is used in race cars to eliminate the problem of glare from the dash, and I thought I might be able to use it on mine. I'm not so much interested in removing the armour all as I am just getting this for the dash to eliminate glare.
Depending on your budget you may go to your local automotive upholstry installer and see if they can cover your dash with alcantara (fake sueded leather). It's expensive. You can also pick up a Car and Driver magazine and I believe there are ads in it for the people who do dashboard carpets.

I've been in the car audio business for 15yrs, and we've used this stuff a lot in the past. You can get it from a place called Select Products. They even have all of the stuff you need to do your own carbon fiber wrapping or creations.

Ok, here's what i've found out:
You can send it to a flocker (haha) and/or if there's not around (IE Canada) then you can get kits and DIY!

Another alternative is to use Pledge or a similar no-wax duster (I'm not sure if they're using waxes in Pledge now or not...they didn't used to). The wax issue was mainly a problem back when they used vinyl (it wouldn't allow the vinyl to "breath") and it would crack prematurely. If you go this route, spray it on a rag and wipe it on the surface so you don't get a lot of overspray.
