Question Transmission Flush and drive belt changes?

DOes anyone know what is need to do most of this work on your own? It would be a huge help if I could not get bent for $600+ for the Tranny flush. I just got off work so I will finish this after I get home.

Ben

I just did part one of my tranny flush during the last oil change (automatic), and I've got to say that the tranny flush was easier than changing the oil. On the auto, when doing a flush yourself you'll only get about 4 qts of fluid out (7qt capacity). Did that, and added OEM diamond ATF...4qts. When next 3k miles when time for the next oil change I'll do the next 4qts.

I figure it'll be better than taking it to Jiffy Lube and getting charge $100 for the flush and then more $$$ for the ATF that isn't OE fluid.

The belts, if you work on cars regularily, shouldn't be a problem. Just mark your pulleys and gears to make everything line up as they should when the belt is removed.

On the auto tranny, the drain bolt is behind the driver's side wheel. Bend the liner outta the way, and you'll see the 19mm bolt. BTW, it's magnetic believe it or not! Pull it, drain the 4 qts, and replace bolt... Screw that new washer!

The tranny dip stick tube is where you'll refill the 4 qts.

BTW, I'd not add anything to the ATF besides the OEM Diamond ATF. But on a manual, I guess it'd be alright.

^It's "best" to do that... But I can tell you, with just the simple 4 qt flush so far I'm seeing mileage on tanks extend 50 miles extra than what I'd been used to!!! 220/230 was norm; last tank on BP 87 oct I went 290!!!

^There is an AT filter inside and other nooks, crannys, valleys that the fluid sits in... I even tried to have gravity help by jacking up the opposite side of the car (helped with the oil filter change too). Only 4 qts. Just do the 4 qts now, then the next 4 at the next oil change (8 qts total duh). It'll be a hell of a lot cheaper than a Jiffy Lube sucking session! and you WILL see + fuel mileage! Just did another 280+ tank last week! Hooray!

You've got the drain part right! No other way around that! Replace what fluid amount you had release. I had about 3.9 quarts, so 4 qts even I put back into it. Refill through the tranny dip stick. I used a $4 plastic container w/ an on/off switch attached to a long clear tube... Was prefect for this other fluid changing needs! BTW, my receipt for the ATF fluid was around $5.5x per quart. If you tell them you were quoted a lower price, they might give it to you at their cost... I did, and got mine @ $4.27 (I think) per quart! LOL

Best of luck with the flush! Quite honestly, it's easier than changing the oil. No crappy oil filter placement to worry about!

^^ It's a simple plastic valve that you turn to stop or start the flow of fluid. Get it at Walmart down the oil products aisle.
^There is a washer on the drain plug bolt, but I opened her up and re-sealed without a new washer. No leaks!
