Question on the Audio/Nav System - Media Server

Just picked up my black GTS with Nav. I have a question...

For the Media Server, will it copy over MP3s from a CD or DVD with them on it? If not, is there any other way to get music on the server except by ripping from a CD. It will take me days and days to rip music that way.

Other than that, I can't wait until someone figures out how to defeat the DVD video disconnect at speed. I am pretty sure now that it is connected to an ECU tied speed sensor or internally to the GPS itself though so I doubt that's happening.

Also, am I the only one that didn't get a video aux input... I have L/R audio inputs where they shoudl be for Aux but not video for some reason. Not that I would use it, but I thought it had one (I know the Outlander does).

Hmm... that's odd that you aux doesn't have a video in, mine does. As far as ripping music to the server, an MP3 cd will not work. Yes this blows. I just picked up a 10 pack of RW's and have been burning them as audio cds and transferring back and forth. This way I don't have to waste any cd-rs even though they are cheap, RW's come in handy for other things. So that's what I would recommend doing. AS far as the DVD override.... I'm not sure what tho think. I would almost guarantee that it is integrated in to the VSS and the only way that it might be possible to override is if there is some sort of service switch or wire combination to enable viewing while moving. Only time will tell.

yes I think you must be. Mine has them, video, L&R audio input down by the power outlet and ashtray. I think it is possible to get a lancer with a nav system installed at the port rather than the factory, and if thats the case maybe they don't put the aux input in?

Anyone figure out how to update the Gracenote CDDB yet? Punching in the titles and artists for any CD newer than late '05 is a big time pain. I have scoured the net and have found no download for it. Gracenote says it should be offered by Mitsubishi. A google search only turns up a hit on their japanese website... I doubt that'd be much. Seems strange to me that they'd offer a download on their japan site but not MMNA....

I thought i read in one of the manuals that the Gracenote service calls out to get the information. You would think the update would come from them if that is how it works.

If your burner supports cd-text, it will read that... I have found that to save a little time

No, that's definitely not the case. There's a button on the MusicServer mode in the nav system that says something to the effect of CDDB Update. I've read somewhere that on other systems you just put a couple files on a CD and then plop that in there and hit that button. And like I said, they have the files on their japanese website, but who knows if that's what we need or not.

How does the CD-text thing work? I thought I saw that logo by where you put the CD in, but every CD I've purchased lately doesn't seem to have that feature...

Anyone yanked their HU out yet... maybe there is a USB or com port. A USB port would be great... this appears to be a base *nix ran box so I bet it can be hacked and what not.

I have aux audio inputs but not video, very odd. No FAST though, apparently there was a problem with the late april/early may delivered vehicles and they didn't ship with FAST when NAV was installed.

From what I have read an autostart with FAST onboard is going to be a real biatch, if possible at all so I don't mind. FAST seemed a bit gimmicky and less than useful anyway.

If you burn with iTunes, or Nero there are options to write the text along with the tracks... It should be under preferences, and if you don't see it then your burner probably doesn't support it. Hope this helps!
