*No 56k* Nuke Old People... Accident Free For 2 Hours

So i was coming home from school, making the same right turn i always make. The light was a solid green for both directions (meaning he doesnt have right-of-way) and here comes this guy who is suppose to be turning into the far LEFT lane anyways, coming into my lane on the FAR RIGHT. and smack, there goes my driver side door.

It now only opens 1/3 of the way, and i have paint across the whole side of my car. The old couple got out of the car, the old man driving telling me the damage isnt bad, its only about $500 worth and i shouldnt call the cops, now mind you i havent even got out of my car yet. i go to open my door and it stops, and doesnt open.. i say "Hell no... you've got to be kidding me..." and i see the entire hinge basically lapped over itself in diff ways. the window doesnt go down...

And the cop took the report and didnt give him a ticket, said there was 2 conflicting stories and he couldnt take sides, but now that i come home and got a map from google of the intersection and i see that not only was he not in his correct lane (he was making a left from the west side, i was making a right from the east going north) and not only was he not in the center lane if only moving over one lane during a turn, but he came over THREE LANES and hit me. I was in front of him, he hit me with the front right bumper of his car and cracked his right head light. It was so completely obvious that he hit me and all the cop said was "i dont even know how you guys managed this, it doesnt make any sense" i think more people need to take a lesson in physics and motion.

I had the woman trying to tell me if they hit me the scratches would have gone the other way.. uhh no, now i didnt say this to her, but i said to my dad "should i give her a lesson in physics and motion? :P" and hes like "haha no, just leave it" but i was thinking... my car was moving slightly faster than yours, causing yours to impale mine, then scrape back on my rear door. if i hit you , my left front bumper and head light would be destroyed and i would have left paint on your car and both of us would probably have messed up wheels.

Got off the phone with my dealer and he said to forget what my insurance company said about bringing it to their accident adjuster and to bring it to him and he will take it apart completely and find every last little bit of damage that needs to be replaced and have the person he works with at my insurance company come down and look at it and get price quotes directly from the dealer. He said the door alone is gonna cost upwards of 5 grand and itll take atleast 2 months to get new parts.

Well, take a gander at the pictures and my little google map rendition..

Blue = me, White = him, light blue = him following me to the gas station off screen on the right. (i was going slightly faster so he followed me, since he hit me and i was ahead of him...)

this is exaclty why i normally wait for them to turn left....but!, dosen't he have the rightaway being that omst likely they had a green light to turnleft?? normally you would have a red light at an intersection like that.

No, it was a solid green for everyone, meaning he didnt have an arrow at all, and as i was making my turn, it was turning yellow which even further shows he was long past having a green arrow (since if you do get one, its the first light that shows)

Dude, this is crap! You are to turn into the lane closest to you during the turn...so you turned into the proper lane (during a green/yellow) and the other did not turn into their nearest lane!

Next time, stop (even slam on the brakes if no one is behind you) as soon as you're hit and stay in that lane. Wait till it's safe to get out. Take pics of the location of your car in the road to verify you're in the right. Pull off the road, and take additional pics. Then the other person can't say you were in this lane or that, when you weren't. Some skids even could help prove that fact too!

So sorry man! but I saw the first totalled GTS over the weekend on a flatbed, so at least you're not in that situation...

This is why I really question the legal system we have. I got hit by a schoolbus (crossed the middle lane and hit my STOPPED car) and the officer "couldn't find fault" - you really just want to explain physics to these people.

Best of luck getting it worked out. Take the old folks on Judge Judy!

cops are stupid i think so just rely on stupid lawyers and you will win, here its illegal to take a left turn more than 2 lanes at once, and if your turning left everythings pretty much your fault. and there probally blind if they hit a nice car like that. that sucks.

we have similar intersections here in AU, (but we drive on the proper side of the road) but yeah in instance like this with all greens, the blue cars has right of way
