customizing interior door panel trim

hi guys, have any of you done any work on th interior door panels where the layer of "mole-skin" like fabric is (excuse my terminology)? I'm not really satisfied with mine becuase I see some scratches/bubbles since i bought it from the dealership .

to better illustrate my point, i'll borrow this picture from wickedwhiteGTS
http://www.photodump.org/stored15/Interior1.JPG

it's the middle part of the interior door panel.

i really want to remove it and add a better fabric to it.

Easy to Do

If you take the door panel off and you can then take the section out and work on it. I am having leather put on mine when the kit is installed.

Its pretty easy to do yourself. With a yard of faux leather material you can do about 6 panels. keeping it in place with Vinyl cement. I did this on my friends Mazda.

Are those stock pieces on his door and dash trim or his own paint? Would be interested in an overlay kit (Though I have done plastic dye jobs so that may be doable, paint finishes typically look just like paint, not the best on interior work).

There are overlay kits on ebay for our cars, many different patterns and colors to choose from. Search 2008 lancer.

Brian; how did you get those portions off.... do they pop off individually, or do you have to pull the entire panell?

They just unclip. But its 100x easier by removing the door panel. The door panel only takes like 2 minutes to take off. Let me know if you need help.

you can always ship your trim peices to my hookup but will take a month cause there very busy. i had to put the trim back myself cause no open appointments. but if ur patience is good, its worth it. they do any finish any fabric. the owner has like 10k in real cf interior in his whip, looks crazy good. charges by square inch. so far ive spent $750.00 on mine and it was much nicer than i expexted, the pics look bad but ive already got lots of compliments by women when they see up close. i think they like grippin wood
