if y our going to buy a radar detector make sure its an escort and nothing less. your wasting your money with cobra, whistler, etc. Escort, Bel, or Valentine only the best.

Cobra's alright, too many false alarms. I've gotten one ticket with it but its saved me multiple times. When I'm done modding my car I'll have the money to invest in a nicer one, like valentine

I know and work with many police officers and deputies. I have asked many of them if these radar detectors work. They all say the same thing. The cop will have already clocked you by the time your detector alerts. The detector alerts because the cop has clocked you. oops, too late.

Because I know them personally. I have ridden with deputies and police and the people ask why their detectors didnt help. I guarantee there are people on this forum with detectors and wonder why they still get pulled over.

i've found that a radar detector will give you those few seconds' warning if you're going a little too fast--unless it's the POP alert in which case you're screwed. they detect radar in use in the area--not necessarily pointing at you.

mine has a feature that is triggered by an emergency vehicle (fire, ambulance, etc.) signal, the same one that triggers those little strobes at the top of street lights. it's nice to have because quite a few times i had my music up and i didn't even notice something barreling down on me.

It depends on what type of Radar gun their useing; if its K or Ka band then you've got a few seconds to slow down because these signals are constantly being put out by the radar gun. If its Laser than your completly screwed; they fire one shot and the read-out is on their gun. If you see "Laser" light up on your radar detector and your speeding you might as well pull over. Down here in New Orleans the police dept is too poor to get the Laser guns so I'm pretty safe; all they use is K and Ka band.

Thats not true. They have laser scrambing technology. It will send back a false reading to the radar gun. Besides that, it picks it up 1-2 miles down the road before the cop even hits you with it.

i have a cobra and it sucks. more false alerts than real ones.

Every time except once i noticed the cop before the detector even hinted that there was one around.

imo save and go for the valentine 1
