Fog light tilt

I was taking out my fog lights today and noticed a long screw that connected to the front and the back of the light. I realized once i began to unscrew this that the blub began to aim upward. Same thing happened when i tightened it except it straightened out. I was just wondering does anyone know about this? If you do please dont flame. And also what would be more productive? up ? straight? down?

Just lookin for some advice thanks.

The screw is an adjuster as you found out, to position the beam so they project ahead of the car. Typically they should be project some what down as to not blind other drivers on the road ahead of you but up enough so that you can see the road at night.

Aren't fog lights supposed to be low so that they go under the fog and illuminate the road? From my experience with thick fog (though admittedly not in my Evo) a light as high up as the stock Evo foglights would just reflect off the fog and make things worse. They appear to me to be just a marketing gimmick, and thus so as long as they are not pointed high enough to blind people they should be fine. Or you could try installing them sideways and tilting them so that they illuminate around corners

If anyone has any experience in thick fog in an Evo, please feel free to contradict me. For reference, most of my fog experience is in the pea soup off 152 by the reservoir.
