Somethign funny/warning light

I didn't know where this should go but this seems like the best place...

Last night I accidentaly hit an already dead raccon and my "Beware of possibly icy conditions" light went on, I laughed a little but then thought, why would that make it come on? What the hell is it sensing?

That's funny . . . and weird.

But I guess it's good to know that the car can sense slippery conditions very well...

That is pretty funny. Mitsubishi has the light set to come on when the temperature drops below a set point. I believe its like 39 degrees, but I'm not sure. It is in the owner's manual.

yeah that is pretty weird cause i thought too it was dependant on the outside temperature and not tire grip or anything like that.

if the it can sense tire slippage, it'd be easy for them to setup TCS, wouldnt it?

Yeah the manual says it will come on at freezing temperatures. Anyone know where the car takes a temperature reading?

Ambient sensors are generally placed in the front, probably ahead of the radiator in the front fascia somewhere.
