2008 Lancer Rearview Camera Installation?

Great News! It looks like there is a Rearview Camera option for the 2008 Lancer with Nav. Check out this link here and see what has been done already. I live in the city and this would be most crucial to have.

thats seems pretty interesting. I could defiantly use one of those, but it looks kind of complicated to install. I think i will wait until someone else does it with there lancer, so i can learn from their mistakes.

Are we entirely sure that this'll work with the Lancer?

I mean yeah the two share a lot of parts, but the Japanese Outlander comes equipped with the RVC whereas the Japanese Lancer doesn't.

There's a distinct possibility that whereas this may be physically possible, the computer still won't know what to do with it.

Looks Like It Should Work

I just went into the car service menu and it does have a section for the camera, but it can not be adjusted. I believe it will not be able to work unless it has a camera hooked up to it. I am going to ask my tech when I go in on saturday. I believe the Outlanders have the backup camera, so it should work in theory, since according to my dealer they are the same exact head unit.

Yes it does work. I just installed mine yesterday. It is not very hard at all.

All you need to fine is a good camera to use (I used an older Pioneer ND-BC1 but you can use any with an RCA output and power and ground.)
Only thing about the Lancer vs. the Outlander, is the Lancer doesn't have that harness, and when you have the camera operating, it doesn't have the nice little grid. But it does work flawlessly.

For a harness you can use some kind of computer plug is what the guy on the Outlander forum is claiming, but I used an antenna harness for a DEI alarm. The end that plugs into the antenna has 4 pins and lines up to the MMCS perfectly. You solder an RCA onto the plug and you can plug it in. Then all you need is an accessory wire and a chassis ground. It really only took about an hour(if that.)

I will post up some pictures so you can see where I mounted it. Though you can do what you want or even get a flush mount camera.

Anyone have the Rear View Camera Pin Out Information. I just Ordered a new PIONEER ND-BC2 UNIVERSAL REAR VIEW BACKUP CAMERA. I have read that it is a pretty much plug and play installation but the link that had most of the instructions is now dead. Anyone have more information on this installation?

Thanks Guys!

Elvis,
Did you severe the harness like that guy, or would it be possible to just tap into them without cutting them? Thanks, and I am looking forward to the pics!

No actually on the Lancer, atleast the US version, it doesn't have the harness at all, nothing is pulgged in. Here are some pictures of the plug layout also where you can get accessory power for the camera, and where I mounted mine. The View works very well there.

Here are some more pictures to help a little. looks like the picture quality is getting cut down pretty bad but you can get the idea. just remember all of the pictures were taken as if the radio was in the dash and you were looking at the back of it, Not what you would see if you pulled it out and let it hang looking at it that way, I labeled the antenna ports so you get prospective.
As far as most of the wire run goes that is pretty straight forward. You need to pull the still pannels to hide the wires/rca.

The acc. wire is labeled, but you should use a meter to be sure. I used a bolt on the side of the radio for a ground, and used a DEI Antenna harness for my cam harness.

I have a 2008 Lancer ES with NAV and it does have something already plugged in to the rear view camera port. I just yank it out and plug in my homemade harness with female RCA. Works fine, but no grid. With the "existing" harness unplugged, I don't see any negative effect, bluetooth phone connects fine, and GPS is picking up all the signal.
Do anyone know how to get the grid displayed?

Hi there just wondering, how does it work, I mean if you put the reverse on, does the camera starts by itself on the screen, or you have to push some buttons on the screen to make it work and to get the video there??

Cause I want to do that job to my GTS but I don't want to go all over the screen searching for the option to get the video there when I am going to park in reverse!!!

Would appreciate any help.

Thx
