OK... There's no such thing as a "struss" bar.

If you got a rear strut bar, that goes on top of the struts. You pull the sides out of the trunk so you can see everything. There's a strut top on each side. You take off the nuts (one per side), slide the bar on, and then tighten the nuts back down. Then if you want to put the trunk sidewalls back up, you can (after cutting a hole for the bar).

Let me know how that affects the handling. I might grab one of the those.

[THEORY]

It shouldn't affect daily driving handling. The purpose of the bar is to increase structural rigidity. What you'd be looking for most is less chassis flex. During hard cornering, when the body is under extreme stress, this bar should stop the car's chassis from flexing and bending. The more straight the car stays, the better grip you get (because the suspension is staying where it's supposed to be).

[END THEORY LESSON]

Cliff's Notes: you shouldn't feel it except under extreme situations (in which case you still shouldn't notice it because you're probably focusing on your driving ).

Call RRM and talk to them about your problem. They will help you out.

Question Rear Upper Strut Bar

I'm waiting on my Lancer's service manual to come in the mail, but for right now can you explain how to remove the two piece plastic fasteners from the interior panels in the trunk...?

I don't want to tear out the interior panels, I want to un-install them, modify with clearance to the strut bar and re-install them... Are the two piece plastic fasteners for the interior panels re-usable...? Or do I have to replace them with new hardware (plastic-ware)...?

Get a flat head screwdriver and pry them out. They will pop right off. And when you are done, just pop those suckers right back on.

Question Install Today... One more question...

Thank you very much... After work I'm going to install the front and rear upper strut bars that I bought a while back from RRM... But, one more question... RRM's Front Upper Strut Bar has a center mount between the struts... I found the threaded stud that the center mount uses on the firewall, but can you tell me the size of the fastener (nut) that I need to buy to make that connection...?

All it really does is stiffen up the chassis a bit. Really, you probably won't even really notice it is there. If you don't have a thicker RSB or stiffer springs, I would go with them first. You will actually notice a difference with those two suspension modifications.

Install is easy, if you look under the car you will see some thin metal piece that is bolted to the subframe that would be replaced by that. Don't have a pic handy to show you...

It stiffens the chassis, but only if you install the other chassis stiffening struts and bars. They all work together, first the front strut bar with the lower truss bar. It creates a load path for chassis roll and sway, and also creates a box type structure. The bottom of "the box" is the truss and the top is the strut bar. With the rear chassis members create the rear "box", lower tie bars with the upper rear strut bar and the new thicker rear sway bar.

I have all of these pieces above installed and in my professional opinion, they make a huge difference in the handling, and navigating curves and corners.

Go For It...
