any reason the apple Iphone *shouldn't* work?

im due for an equipment upgrade through AT&T in March. that's plenty of time to save-up and i was thinking about killing two birds with one stone by getting a new phone PLUS something i can bang-out all my tunes from.

Anyone tried this method? im not familiar with the iphone connections at all seeing as i've never known a friend to own one yet.

any help would be appreciated.

im sincerely hoping this thing hooks right up with the ipod-cable that mitsu sells.

From: City O Sin, MA...the not so sinish part though...
I have heard from a few people that the phones themselves are great but the reception on them is nothing to write home aobut. I'm sure it depends on your area though. I'm from the greater boston area so if people are getting bad reception out here its probably not really great anywhere else but I could be wrong. In any case, that's just what I've heard from people, haven't actually tried one myself.

well reception DOES matter. but if im driving, i won't be answering my phone too much anyways for 2 reasons.

1)It will be illegal in California to be on your cell phone while driving
2) With the phone looking as big as a brick it will no doubt get me in trouble with rule number 1 above. lol

Im just concerned with the iphone being easily plug and play with the ipod connections.

But if anyone knows any "Iphone SUCKS" stories POST THEM HERE. i'd love to read them if you guys don't mind.

the iphone won't hookup to the mp3 cable. The Phone itself has a recessed hole where the headphones plug in so you will need an adapter, which can be had on ebay for 5 bucks. After that the phone will work fine and will work with the bluetooth as well. I don't even take mine out of my pocket when I get in the car and incoming calls just come over the speakers.
-Also, quick FYI, the Iphone has nothing to do with your ATT contract and you can go buy one outright from apple before your "upgrade" time. It doesn't affect it at all.

NICE! so literally, the iphone is not compatible with the car until you get a headphone adapter? May i ask for a link to said adapter?

i also knew that i could easily go buy the iphone but in March on top of 'qualifying' for a phone upgrade the upgrade also comes with a discount on any device i choose. So in march ill be looking to get this phone, install the ipod hookup and hopefully have that ebay adapter all lined-up ready to roll.

this is good news. now i can full fledge read reviews and crap knowing this is the phone i will probably buy. thanks guys. honestly.

I would just go buy it now, any discounts offered via ATT do not apply to the iphone. The only discount you could possibly get is if you had an apple coupon or gift card and bought it at the apple store. The iphone is an unsubsidized phone and not part of any promotions or discounts offered by ATT or any carrier. So when your upgrade time rolls around, the discount only applies to subsidized phones offered through ATT aka, normal phones. Hopefully apple changes their policy in the future but I doubt it
Another benifit of buying now is that your chances are higher of getting a 1.0.2 firmware phone that is much more friendly to mods, but thats a gamble as apple stopped shipments of iphones until those are depleted from standing stock

But it may very well be susidized, possibly heavily, by the time he is ready to upgrade.

nope, its in the ATT/Apple contract, which is 1+ years in length. It really sucks too, because you are buying the iphone outright and its not unlocked...Its like paying retail for a cell phone straight from motorolla and then they tell you which carrier to use it on anyway.
heres the basic FAQ's from ATT
http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/iphone-faqs.jsp

sorry to stray off topic

the phone works well and to its credit, the bluetooth can be left on all the time without any noticeable difference in battery life, unlike most phones. The only downside of using your phone to play music over the stereo is the occasional GSM-cell phone noise...but usually it passes quickly and can only be heard at certain volume levels, generally very low (for me anyway)

AT&T is a grabash network. Apple nickles and dimes you on EVERYTHING. For these two reasons alone I skipped the I-Phone.

Oh whats that? You just shells out some big bucks for an I-Phone and now you want head phones? Well let me screw you a little more, f-You pay me.

What's that, all those songs you already paid for that are uploaded to you phone you want to set as a ring tone? F-you pay me.

yep exactly. i would sell mine if it weren't for the easy mods and applications. It sucks as a stock phone, its pretty looking, but it still sucks as a stock phone. And it doesn't help that Apple markets new features like they invented the wheel...like freaking ringtones.

well. the way i see it (currently) Any money i have for the iphone can go to many more planned-out mods i have for my GTS.

i figured by march i'd have more parts on the car anyways and would be READY to buy the iphone. you're right. i could get one now. but i knew ahead of time i'd be waiting around anyways.

money for mods first, THEN i'll worry about my phone/music options. 8)

FWIW I don't see that as a viable use of funds as well. As nice as the GTS is, it isn't a performance ride. Much of the engine mods IMHO would be a waste and maybe gain 15-20WHP with thousands of $$$$ of mods.
