$280-300 too much for tinting? (Toronto)

Hi guys it's finally spring break and I think I'll do some mods to my car, one of them being tints. I live at Richmond Hill and found a tint shop to do my lancer for $280-300, it seems too expensive but it's the only place I can find (my friend recommended me). The guy working there say there's a known problem with the hard rubber in 08 lancers that causes scratching when you roll down the window. I'm also aware of that problem and I've found a kit online that installs a mold/felt to fix that.

Problem is I lack the skills to open the door panel and I don't want to mess my car up, the kit itself cost $35 shipped and letting the tint shop do it will cost $80 ($20 per door) more on top of the $200 they're already charging.

Is this reasonable for tints? If anyone knows a cheap place please let me know, oh btw this shop offers lifetime warranty so that might make the price more worthwhile...

That's a bit steep, but if they do a good job it's worth it. I usually see pricing closer to the $200 range.

As for installing the tint protector, there's a how-to article about it . . .

yep that's the kit I'm talking about, I read that guide already but this is my first car, first manual, and I have absolutely no experience with car modding/repairs/maintenance whatsoever so I think I'll let the shop do it.

my dad however, can install pretty much every mod for me but he doesn't want to void the 10 year warranty . And I don't wanna give him more work than he already has so I think I'll shell out the money myself and get it done professionally.

Another question I have is I always drive on the highway and living in Toronto the weather sometimes gets really cold or there's freezing rain, if I use those plastic stick things to scrap the ice off the window will it damage the tints easily?

$200 for tint is reasonable, and for them taking off each of the door panels and adding the felt for $20 a pop is good I'd say. So in total, to have a good tint job with a good warrranty and the felt for added protection...overall seems to me like a good deal!

When I had my '03 OZ I was going to pay $180 for all my windows done with 3M with the 10-yr as well.

Good luck!

WOW WOW 200+ is a hell of a lot of money for tints. But I guess it depends on the country. Here in PR they are about 70$ Industrial papers with 3 years anti-scratch guarantee in a very well known grade A tint shop. (They actually have 35% or 40% in special right now for 55$ in classic black style. I know cause my girl out them on her car about a week ago) For those who dont know there are alot of styles and colors.

. If you dont have tints all around in your car over here they say you have a fish tank for a car..LOL....(fish tank refers to clear glass)

A little bit closer to $250 would be more reasonable I think. I paid $250CDN here at Ziebart for tinting all 7 windows + moleskin felt + all the warranties needed.

eh... tint jobs must be expensive where you guys are... either that or I got a hella discount for because I'm a friend of a friend of the shop owner I went to. $135 to get my car tinted with tint protector installed and a lifetime warranty.

Of course, I suppose it helped that I also sprung for a clear bra while I was there... I kept the guy busy for a full 8 hours on my car alone...

mine came to 300 for lifetime, 5% on back windows, rear window, 20% ish on the driver and passenger windows and a 5% strip along the top of the windshield.

seemed fair and was a good job

I'm thinking the 2nd option.

We're giving advice to normal people. We don't all have friends who own shops. So when I get tint, I'll be paying full retail...

You will if you don't buy the Tint Protector.

I don't know. And I can't go on eBay at work, so I can't check at the moment.

It's already pretty cheap when you get it from TP, though...
