Go to an actual Mitsu Dealer and have their mechanics run the code. I just had this happen and they determined that the cat converter was bad. Now, get this, my car has absolutely no warranty on it but the parts and labor were still covered because it is federal law (I think it's federal law...or at least state law in Nevada) that the original OEM exhaust that is required to meet environmental requirements must be covered by the manufacturer for a minimum of 8 years. Anyway, take it to a dealer, or at least call a dealer with your findings and if they agree that it's the cat converter, than I'm thinking you should get it fixed for free.
