The air bags are NOT in the seats. The air bag SENSORS ARE though; particularly the passenger front air bag, because you don't want an airbag deploying into the face of an 8 y.o. breaking their neck or something. The "side curtain" air bags are in the roof liner above the side windows.

There are only 7 (SEVEN) air bags in our US spec Lancers. 1 for each side window (4 total), one in each side of the dash (2 total), and a driver's side knee bag (1); that's a total of 7 bags. The tags on your seats are there to let you know you have "Side Restraint Safety" air bags; just like the marking on your A-Pillars are there to let you know you have them. They are not there to let you know where exactly the bags will deploy from.

Nunyas,

I'm not so sure that you have it right. My understanding is as follows:

2 front air bags (driver + passenger)
1 knee air bag
2 side curtain air bags (each covers both front and rear on one side of the car)
2 side impact air bags (which deploy from the seats)

Look at the picture and read the text on Mitsubishi's '08 Mitsubishi Lancer "Safety & Warranty" web site:

http://www.mitsubishimotors.com/MMNA...n-us#safetyTab

It sure looks to me like there are air bags deploying from the sides of the front seats.

Cheers,

Mark

Will u guys stop with the airbags? My lancer only has 2 front airbags, thats it! lol So i have no airbags to worry about. I am asking about other electronics like seat belts and weight sensors etc and how to change the seats without affecting these or turning them off so they dnt cause me trouble

M@v,

I think most of us get the fact that your car has a different set up. However, since most of the readers here are driving US-spec cars, don't be surprised if this thread drifts

Given that your air bag setup is different from ours, it wouldn't surprise me if the wiring, sensors, etc. in your car are different as well. Those of us here in the USA can tell you that you need to find a way to deal with these things, but I doubt that any of us are going to know the specifics of your car with any certainty. Given the confusion over the air bags, I'm not that confident you'll get expert advice on the electronics here Perhaps you will have better luck on the EVO board. However, if you can't find anyone on a discussion board that can help you, then you either need to find a local shop to help you or take the adventurous approach and just start digging in

By the way, there is nothing you can really hurt in your car by swapping the seats. I can't imagine you doing anything to deploy an air bag or creating any other disaster. The worst-case scenario is that you pull the stock seats, install new seats, and have a noise or a warning light. If you can't figure out the fix yourself at this point, then take the car to a shop and shell out the $$$ to finish the job.

Have you spoken with anyone in your country who sells aftermarket seats? They should have the knowledge about how to deal with situations like the one you are in.
