Seat Removal
In my version I dont get airbags in them so thats fine. And I dont know about the weight sensors, how can they be removed or numbed? I hate having it beep every time someone sits down and doesnt put on their seatbelt
Here is the real deal about seat belts. You know your a crappy driver and openly admit that your car has no performance capability ( and even if it does you will never achieve close to its potential ) if you dont put your seat belt on. You wear your seat belt at all times for two major reasons.
A. If someone hits you or you hit something, your likely to get ****ed up. You can lose your teeth even at 20mph.
B. The only way to maximize the performance of your car is to have your azz firmly attached to the seat. If you cant control your own butt then you cant control your car.
Not wearing your seatbelt is about as cool as plastic hubcaps with spinners. = Not wearing a seatbelt is just poor genetics.

Trust me, your Lancer isn't going to say to itself "seats are gone, no more worries." It's going to go "holy crap, the seats are gone!" 24-7-365...

Word of caution on the Evo seats. Last time I checked with the dealer, they told me that the Evo seats would void warranty on the SRS and that they couldn't install it for liability issues. I canned the idea for doin it cuz I'd rather keep the warranty. If I ever feel like making my GTS a track/street car, I might change my mind.
ok elpoole, wtf r u talkin about? To everyone else, the model here in SA doesnt have airbags in the seats! And as for the beeping thing isnt there anyway to turn it off or maybe incorporate it in bucket seats? And for my original question, how do u take the seats out?
to to mitsubishi.com or whichever factory site you prefer and go to specs on our lancers. It states all lancers come with 9 air bags! Maybe they forgot to put tags on the side of your seat but I am pretty sure they are there.
Also if you want to take your seats out and see your airbag light come on. Find the floor of your car, the seats are bolted to that. Also disconnect any electrical connections.

Im sure its just a matter of sensors wire being grounded. Seriously you guys are thinking to deep about it. If you dont want to void your warrenty then oh well dont mod your car but if you could care less and then realize mitsu stop caring about the car the day you bought it then move on with life and mod your car. Im sure there are a number of performance shops that would love to entertain your idea of bucket seats. The only bad thing ( if you want to call it that) would be you dont have air bags in your seats, and you void your warranty (which wont last that long in the first place).
So i say mod your car, you paid for it , do what you want to it.

I know it doesn't help the OP in removing his seats but maybe it'll get people back on topic instead of harping on him. As for how to remove the seats, it's a very new car so your chances are pretty slim that anyone on the Lancer side will know anytime soon how to tackle this problem. I think you might have better luck asking in the Evolution X section because if anyone is replacing seats, outside of yourself, it would be an Evo owner (possibly to make a track car). This could be especially tricky (with the electronics) considering you have a Lancer in South Africa, that is apparently different than the USDM Lancers. Maybe ask a shop on here who has a shop car that is a newer Lancer or Evo X.
I don't have any expert advice on the matter, but here are some thoughts that might help.
M@verick is in South Africa, so his safety system (air bags, warning bells, etc.) may be rather different from those in the US. For example, my car doesn't beep if the front passenger isn't wearing a seat belt. I just get a warning light. My car does beep incessantly if the driver isn't wearing a seat belt. That's not a problem, because I always wear my seat belt!
Removing the seat should be pretty easy. It is likely a simple matter of looking under the seat where the sliders are. Pull up the plastic trim at the front and (I assume) at the back. I'm guessing there are four obvious bolts (two in front and two in back) that need to be removed to pull the seat.
Then there's whatever wiring harness you need to deal with. Here's where things might get tricky. Disconnecting the wiring harness is very likely to set off one or more fault codes in your computer. If you don't have some kind of device to hook into your OBD, then you either go to a shop to remove the fault codes after you're finished, or you leave the faults.
Also, assuming your new seats don't have the same safety issues (e.g., weight sensors, sensors for seat belt buckled), then you need to find a way to prevent fault codes, beeping noises, etc. from going off each time you turn on the car.
I'm all in favor of improved safety, but this is one of the downsides. In my former 1986 Porsche 944 seats could be removed/replaced at will without setting off any codes or buzzers. The stock driver's side seat belt receptacle had a wire to detect whether or not the belt was buckled, but I believe you could simply splice the ends together to trick the system.
So, my advice in sum is that removing the seat should be a simple matter of finding the bolts and removing the wiring harness. If you replace the stock seats with aftermarket, then the wiring may be a pain in the a**. If you're not able to figure out how to deal with the wiring, then I suggest talking to a dealer in your area, or some other mechanic familiar with the South Africa electronics.
By the way, the stock front seats in any Lancer are considered "bucket seats." I assume what you want are "sport" seats or "racing" seats."
Best wishes,
Mark
