Need Help: Alternator belt

its been awhile since i been on these forums.

and yes i searched but maybe i didnt search properly. but anyway i have an 02 lancer ES automatic, and my alternator belt is thrashed. like 1/4 of it is left. so it needs replacing. but ive never replaced one ever before on any kind of car. the thing is i dont know how.

i searched for a write up but couldnt find one. and i was looking for a chilton/helms/haynes manual for the lancer 02 but i didnt find one. i was looking for a free .pdf

but am iwilling to buy one as long as i get it asap.

any help on the how to do the replacement? or with the .pdf search?

would this thread possibly help my problem?

Look on ebay there's some service manuals listed for our car.

I have the book and don't have a scanner to show you a breakdown of the alternator belt.

Found a guide for an 04. Same thing for our cars.

The hardest part of changing belts is to get them the right tension.

What you need to do is look at your alternator. There will be a long bolt that fits a 12 mm socket. Just loosen that up and pull out up out of that bracket. Then, tilt your alternator forward and the belt will loose its tension and ou can easily pull it off.

There's also a 14mm nut you will need to loosen underneath the alternator that is below the intake manifold. Otherwise you won't be able to rotate the alternator to loosen the belt.
