can you clean out your catalytic converter instead of buying a new one right away?

 

I have never heard of anyone cleaning a catalytic converter. Though, ive never heard of it getting "dirty", just going bad (rattling, etc.). Good luck though.

 

maybe that person means to take off whats inside de cat?

i dont know if you can clean them or not, thats why i wrote the thread. didnt know if the cat. converter gets clogged at all, or just fails due to a bad part. my check engine light came on, and the reading points to my cat. so just figuring out my next step.
