Looking for help regarding my gauge cluster.

I have a 2003 Lancer, Oz Rally edition. When i bought it, it was a automatic. I later decided i wanted to change it to a manual, so i took it to a mitsubishi dealership and had them change it from a auto to manual. Nearly 3 months later they finished and to my surprise when i picked up the car eariler this week i found out they had changed my gauge cluster to a ES model cluster. When i asked the tech why they did this, he said it was because when they hooked everything up they had a problem with the wire harness and they had to change it to a ES gauge. I'm not a big fan of the ES gauge and ask them if it would be possible if they could reinstall a OZ gauge. They told me this wouldn't be possible.
I have read alot of post on here about the ES and OZ gauges being 'plug and play' and i was wondering if i could just go buy a oz gauge and hook it up myself and the dealership is just being lazy or should i not do it as i don't want to mess something up with the car. Any help/advice would be great. Thanks so much.

thats is bs what the dealer told ya.... the lancers from 02-06 beit es/ls/oz or ralliart from 04-06 a/t or m/t the clusters are swappable... just ask for the cluster back cause conv from auto to manu doesnt make a diff the connectors are the same for the cluster

btw how much did they charge you for the swap?

wow I've never heard of a dealer doing this for you... it must have cost an arm and a leg (considering dealer labor is borderline thievery)

But yea, get your oz cluster back, there's no reason it shouldn't work. and make sure they don't charge you extra for swapping it back cause it was their own fault to begin with!

It ran me about 6k to do the swap. cost wasn't really a huge issue, what killed was that it took 3 months to complete. Altho i'm not really sure on how long it really takes to change a auto to manual. I have to admit tho, the car handles ahell of alot better and seems quicker on the accerlation, but that could be because i haven't driven it in 3 months too

Well, i just called the dealership and ask them for my cluster back and they told me that the tech that worked on my car wasn't there and wasn't going to back for a week and that the only thing they could find was the wire harness but no cluster. Why do i get the feeling that someone has made off with my oz cluster and i'm stuck w/ the ES cluster, no offence to those who have a ES. Just sucks now cause i now new gauges in my pillar pod that are white w/ red lights that don't match my cluster. so i either have to rebuy new gauages or find a new oz cluster. f*ckin' awesome. And i don't really want to pitch a b*tch to bad at the dealership as they are the only mistusbishi dealership within reasonable driving distance.

yea the es cluster is boring but i did manage to sell the one on the lancer im parting out so i guess people do want em. who cares about the stealership take your car up there and bit** about it the cluster should have nothing to do with a tranny swap ive done a few and it never interfered with it. i would go crazy on em.

I'm gonna call them again tomorrow when the service manager will be there and talk to him about it. If he gives me the same 'o we can't find your cluster' omment then i'll wait 1 week and call them again when the tech is back and see again. But i just have this feeling that one of their guys made off with the cluster. This wouldn't p*ss me off so much if I wouldn't have brand new gauges in my pillar. Guess this is what i get for trying to plan ahead.

You know you could've bought a 5 speed lancer for that price and had two cars right?

this is true but i already have a jetta as my backup car, didn't really need a 3rd car, and doubt i'd have room for it anyways

Yea, we'll see tomorrow as i'm going back to talk to the service manager about the cluster. If they really did 'lose' or 'get rid of' my cluster then i'll just take this as a 6k lesson not to go to stealerships. Now that i've found this website i think i'll do much better with my decision makin' when it comes to repairs/upgrades.
