New to the Tuner Game

Hey there fellow Lancer Fans out there!

First of all I want to start by saying I love reading this forum. I just found it again a while back, after searching through some old websites and such. Great to be back!

Now for my question. I own a 2002 OZ Ralli Art Lancer, has a few engine troubles (problem with the headers and the like, but I can get that fixed) as well as a few cosmetic things wrong. However my main question is, I have some money coming to me in a few months to a year, and I was wondering is it worth trying to tune up a OZ Ralli Art? If so, what are some things you suggest doing, I know i want to see if I can swap the 2.0 L for a 2.4 of a 2003 perhaps? I honestly don't know a whole lot about cars, but I am trying to learn through forums and friends of mine!

If you guys have any suggestions, I would love to hear them, or if you think I'd be better off scrapping it and getting something else, let me know as well! All advice is appreciated .

By the way, the Lancer is an Automatic (bleh), but i am also looking to switch it to standard if possible? Anyway, thanks again!

I'm pretty new my self but changing engines is pretty expensive. I started off with a Cold Air Intake. PepBoys has K&N that you can order. That's a good start, after that some headers. Just depends on what you want to do. If you want performance, looks or a balance.

I've been around lancers for about four years now and I'm very mechanically inclined, so I would suggest you look into road race motorsports and see what they have going on. Look at thier projects and divide what you'd like to get out of your car from there. I have lots of information to share with regards to 2002-2003 owners, pm me if u'd like.

Depends on $$$ and how much performance your looking for. Power and handling are the biggest for that category obviously. If your looking for any type of worthwhile increase in power then either engine swap or turbo (or both ) Suspension I personally love Tien suspension setups. I an reality your cash flow and expectations will ultimately guide you where you will want to be.

Honestly, trying to get the Lancer to compete with a performance car is going to be expensive, and at the end of the day you'll have a Lancer with a whole slew of performance parts that still won't hang with a performance car. If you go into this project knowing that, then you'll be ok. If you're looking to achieve Evo performance, then you're better off just selling the Lancer and buying an Evo.
