Quick question! Please read..
Hey I'm trying to make my lighter socket always on being I was just hit by Sandy and had no power and could have really used it! I bought a "Add a circuit" and a socket adapter from what I've found that is the easiest way but what fuse is always hot or is there a different way to do this? Please help! Thanks
I would take and disconnect the factory wiring from the socket and then run a new ground wire and you can tap into a constant 12v source under the dash in the ignition harness fairly easy and run the new power wire to the socket. I personally have a power inverter hardwired into my car to run my laptop while I am tuning. This gives me 2 110v standard plug ins and a lighter adapter plugin all available with the car on or off.
you can source power from the constant 12v wire for the radio. basically any constant 12v will work. use a test light on wires with the key out and find one thats hot. i would recommend wiring in a manual switch to the socket, to prevent unnecessary draw when your not using it. wishing everyone well during these hard times. cheers
Thanks guys for the help.. And I'm doing ok now but there are a lot of people who are really hurting from this hurricane I know if people would have (including myself) took there warnings more serious there would be a lot less fatalities! Mother nature is unfortunately unstoppable just we have never dealt with something like this and no one was ready for it at all thanks again fella's it's appreciated and btw I was trying to do the add a circuit thing to prevent having to take the whole center console out and stuff cause right now it's crappy weather but what I might do is just run it straight from my old battery and add a inline fuse for now cause I have a fully charged battery in my house
