2011 Lancer ES 4B11 Engine
Hello all,
I have a few questions since my last visit to Mitsubishi service.
I have an 2011 Lancer ES with 92 000 km. He suggested a fair bit of work below.
1) Recommended fuel induction/throttle clean service Do you guys do this? He mentioned that the fuel will build up internally and affect power and efficiency.
2) Recommended PCV valve replacement.
3) Recommends engine coolant replacement. How often do you guys do this?
4) Recommends manual transmission fluid replacement. How often do you guys do this?
5) I'm told this car has a timing chain. Do I need to replace it and at what mileage?
Total cost of items 1,2,3,4 is over $600.
Thanks for any replies!

My questions to your questions (and not in order - just my thoughts):
1. What does the Owner's Manual say? Find the maintenance interval table and unless you are 'severe driving profile' assume the normal schedule. There is no reason to deviate unless required. It really sounds to me like the shop is just drumming up more business from unsuspecting or people lacking in knowledge. I am glad you asked the forum.
2. What is your fuel economy now? Has it decreased any?
3. Modern fuels all have detergent (even the lowest grade). An injector cleaning is only required when performance or fuel economy suffers (and you have checked the obvious stuff like air filter and tire pressure first).
4. Yes, you do have a timing chain and no replacement is necessary (like a timing belt which does have a change interval) unless indicated by a check engine code for timing chain stretch.
So. Be an informed customer on your next visit
Please consider using another dealership or garage in the future. The one you went to sounds shady to me.
