4G94 Head removal questions
Hello all, thanks for your time. I'm sorry if this is a repost, but i cant find the answers im looking for. Im replacing a blown head gasket on my 03 lancer OZ, 2.0. It seems like a pretty easy job ( I also work as a disel technician, so my mechanical abilities are up there). But i found on a workshop manual, it says to set cyl 1 tdc and just zip tie the camshaft sprocket to the timing belt and remove it from the cam. then just set it aside and remove the head. Sounds fair and all, but how does it not lose timing? Im worried that just by hanging it off to the side, the belt down at the crank could jump a tooth. Has anyone else done this, is it really that easy? Anything to worry about the tensioner over extending either? (ive had that happen before on a different vehicle).

I had to do a valve job on my 2006 last summer. The shop manual saying to zip tie the belt to the cam sprocket... I just laughed.
I just left the rockers off when I put the head back on. No chance of pinging the valves while getting it timed.
