FM reception problem.

Ok guys as some of you know i bought an Alpine HU a couple of months ago. Since installation I have been having very bad radio reception. It did not bother me at first because i was listening to the iPod most of the time, but there is a new morning program in my fav station and i can't listen to it. To make things worse apparently my HID are causing more interference, making it impossible to listen to a radio station at nights. I am trying to solve the main problem with crutchfield, but would like to hear your thoughts, especially regarding the HID interference. thanxs to all

I had an Alpine headuinit too and it had bad fm reception... I do not think there is much you can do about it, because the problem went away with other radios. So you know it is not the cars attenna nor wiring...

What you can do I suppose is by a different attenna and see how it works with your Alpine. Circuit City sells them for about 25 dollars, just stick it in, and hide it underneath your dash somewhere.

I did that for a costumer and was complaining about reception problems and that cleared it right up.

If it doesnt work, just ask if you can return the attenna..

Double check your antenna connection. I had the same problem with weak/no radio reception when I installed my Kenwood HU. It's a tight fit for the cables in the back and they can shift as the HU is being pushed in.

Me neither (Alpine 9830), though I don't use FM all that much. Best I can think of is to make sure the antenna cable is in tight.

The antenna had an powered amplifier according to Shopkey5.com!! On the OEM HU this is the yellow wire that feed power to the amplifier. I don't now the voltage needed to the amp but check out this and let me know!!

I read something like that, about a power antenna on the cars with ROOF or rear glass mounted antennas.

If you fix this let me know, cause I have a Sony and I could have better reception, I had the same sony on my older cars (with simple telescopic antennas) and It had near perfect reception.

well, I try it, and yes the car has "power antenna" is the yellow cable, but I connect it to my sony HU and the signal doesnt improve at all, it stays the same, so, you people try it anyway...

When I have my car in hand I try to check the voltage output at the HU. If is a simple 12V just splice the wire from the ignition switch and maybe it will fine. But if you would try it now just remember to check the voltage at the back of the OEM HU!!!

check that there is nothing metal touching the metal part on the back of the antenna wire this will cause problems for you.
