Trunk deck lip rattles with subs
Trunk deck lip rattles with subs
Does anyone have any issues with the trunk lid behind the back seats?
When I turn up my subs, the lid literally jumps 3 inches up and knocks against the back window. There's almost no point in turning the stereo up as the rattling is so loud...
Basically I'm hoping that someone has run into this before and have come up with some kind of fix....something to keep it from moving
I know there will always be some rattles with subs but this is unbearable.
Any ideas?

Dynamat alone won't resolve this issue... there is too much of a gap between the carpeted deck lid and the actual metal rear deck of the car. Also, the carpeted rear deck panel doesn't really have anything solidly holding it down... hence the bass can move it quite a bit.
I have the exact same issue with my lancer too. I've got a Kaption 15" SPL sub in a 3cu. ft. box and it is annoying.
Turning down the sound is one option... but not acceptable... LOL
I've come up with an idea to resolve the rattling but I'm not sure as of yet how well it will work because I haven't gotten around to it yet. Just driving around with no rear deck LOL.
I was going to get some 1" foam material, and trace out the rear deck mat that is underneath the carpeted rear deck itself. Then either glue this to the bottom of the carpeted rear deck or just sandwich it between the metal of the rear deck and the carpeted rear deck panel.
I hope this makes sense...

that's whatI did too on my old Lancer and stopped the thing from jumpingup and down!!!
i think Dynamat could work but only over the top of the trunk, not on that lid...
Try wedging it like blkbute said and also add some foamy material below it!!!
foam should work fine, you could make molds and use the expanding stuff from Home Depot to make your own if you wanted
your displaced air is moving the deck, not the sound, so if you wanted to use dynamat you would need to cover all the holes too. it would work fine that way though
