just tighten then down and give them a little turn the screwdriver or whatever head it is...enought they won't spin back out, but not so tight that you crack it.

1/2 turn past hand tight is the rule of thumb i believe.

and the head gasket is not the gasket under your valve covers. thats the valve gasket. head gasket is in the heads.......

enough that it holds together, run the car around, then check to make sure it's not leaking. If you're worried about them holding, get some of the Blue Lok-Tite (not red, that kind takes heat to get it un-stuck)

dont run them around.....are you kidding? worst case he doesnt have em on tight enough at all and they vibrate right off...then the leak is a problem when your engine goes knock knock boom..... turn your engine on with ur hood open. have someone rev the car a little to get the oil back up in the covers. if u get smoke from oil DRIPPING on your exahsut manifold or anything else hot, you know you need to go tighter....but the 1/2 turn past hand tight is almsot fool proof. if you 2nd guess it - jsut go back after 50 miles and make sure one of them hasnt come loose. but generally 1/2 turn is fine.

well I would hope that he has it at least tight enough to not fall out right away, and also hope his engine is running well enough to be unable to vibrate a bolt out. if you can turn it by hand, it's too loose

rev the engine in neutral. the engine vibrates plenty to have a bolt come off......

either way though.....too tight is better than too loose

as long as your gasket is silicone'd on to the cover you should be fine....the silicone forms its own gasket as well as makes the actual gasket stick.

i got the RRM valve cover so i think the torque specs are like 13 - 15 in / lbs. I bought a craftsman inch / lb torque wrench from sears and it has really been worth it.
