another advantage of them is that is diverts more air towards your intercooler if you have one and radiator

 

i agree with blacksheep its used for down force and the two metal rods in the middle are for adjustment up or down depending on how much downforce you want for instance you adjust them all the way down so that would make the lip point to the ground giving you downforce but if you adjust them all the way up the lip would point to the sky giving the car lift
