Aftermarket HID's are illegal if they didnt already come with the car... period, regardless of the state your in (it's a federal motor vehicle law). People do it anyways, just as long as your HID's arent blinding everyone on the road.

any aftermarket rebased HID kits are illegal like kareem said. some cops dont even notice, but some are really **** about it. just dont get any HID kits with a temp over 6500k where there is a very noticeable color that will get you pulled over. and even so, the higher temp u go with, the lower the lumens of the light becomes.. meaning the light output will suck. so in essence, if you dont wanna get pulled over but want bright headlights to light up the road, stay between the 4300k-6500k temperature range. either that or go retrofit.

would they be illegal if they came from a car legally eqquiped with them? seeing the is300 comes with HIDS... they are legal, so if they were "transplanted" that would still make them legal??

if you wanna do what azn rice racer wants to do and mold the lexus headlights into your car, then it's legal. if you just want to take the lexus HID bulbs and ballasts and put them in your car, not only will you have to custom fit the bulbs, but it can also be considered illegal lighting. reason being is because if u take the whole headlamp assembly from the is300 and use it on your car, that specific assembly was made to handle the output of HIDs properly, thus minimizing, or even eliminating, the glare. however, if you put ANY HIDs in your lancer headlamps, or any other headlamps that use halogens, for example, it becomes illegal because the way the reflectors are set up behind the housing are meant to handle the beam of regular halogen bulbs. once HIDs are put in those housings, the light is so intense that the reflectors in the housing bounce light everywhere, creating a lot of glare.

like i said, if you want to go the safe route, go with a retrofit.
