anyone know how to fix fiberglass - cracks?
So i'm looking for someone knowledgable about fixing fiberglass for feedback. I've never done any fiberglass .. but my FB has a crack in it. I wanna know:
1. is it worth my while to try and fix a crack in the fiberglass? or should I have a shop do it?
2. if it is worth it, what do I need?
anyone who has any experience in this your advice is appreciated. yeah i searched

how big of a crack is it? and where is it located? those need to be considered but any experienced autobody shop can fix a crack very easily and will charge you an arm and a leg for it. Show me some pictures of the crack and i'll tell you what needs to be done.

thanks guys - its a crack on the bottom lip of an evo7 FB ... its from the bottom of the lip up about 5 inches to the middle opening. it was previously patched, but not very well ... i'll get some pics 2nite to post up.
yea i hit a rock and got one in mine too.
fiberglass resin mix with hardner and then smear it on there.
then sand it down and do it again.
till you like it.
then paint.
i think the stuff i used was like $10 all together

what kit is it?? if the crack is just in the gelcoat, then no need for fiberglass work, just "V" out the crack and fill it with 8115 Panel Adheasive. its a 3M product. IT can setup under water, its about $30 bucks a tube... but it is work every cent.

Nitrous2K3 - I wanna come up .. I've gotta see whats up with the wifey, but will let ya know.
Its the ABK evo7 first gen kit. Its the one which fits with a stock hood/grille. Its not a crack in the gel coat - its a crack all the way through (I know as I can see through the damn crack). I'll post up pics 2nite.

here's the proper way to fix a crack on fiberglass. Keep in mind this is for a major crack if its only hairline or close to it then you can just do what everyone else says and you'll be fine. [you've already sanded down your bumper so i won't go into the whole prepping the areas for fiberglass and such...just make sure the surface around the crack is clean.]
[The red line on this picture will be considered to be the crack.]

take a dremel with a cutting bit or grinder bit and run it through the crack following the cracks characteristics[green] it doesn't have to be exact you just want to get rid of the loose fibers and such. This will open up the crack some more. You can use a really thin cutter/grinding bit if you want...actually i personally like using smaller bits so you wont have to use so much bondo/filler.

you will need to put a few thick layers of fiberglass and resin on the under side of the crack to provide support and to seal the crack. put some resin inside the crack on the opposite side or the painted side of the bumper and apply a good amount of filler/putty/bondo probably about the thickness of a nickel ontop and beyond the crack. try to cover a few inches of surface passed the crack on both sides and above. sand the filler down until smooth and finish prepping for primer.
Other way you can do it is by using that 3M stuff that TeamAccolade mentioned which i haven't tried myself but i have heard that it does work.

get some fiberglass mat behind it and resin over it, it will harden up and almost act as a plate behind it, then bondo on the front and sand it down, buh bye crack. My kit cracked and this is how i fixed it.
Are you honestly going to sit there and tell me that bondo flex's?
