hey all i've been wondering. how come know one smokes there headlights? everyone seems to paint the inside. would smoking your headlights cause your lights to be to dim to see at night? I'm asking because i was thinking about buying ultra white bulbs then smoking the front headlights. That way the lights would dim to stock brightness.

 

smoking your headlights is also illegal. you won't pass inspections. painting the inside is better because the shops don't know the difference.

if you smoke em it you will lose pretty much all of you light output, then what would be the point of headlights?...

 

Depends on the products you use and how much time and patience and detail you put into it. I know RRM sells the blacked headlamps, I did mine myself and had no problems, othe people had problems with sealing theirs back up. Like I said, It depends on your products and patience and detail.

 

ummm diy headlights are prolly one of the easiet thing to do as long as your patient...detail isnt necessary *** patience.......

 

yes ur lights would dim...but not a really big diff...but painting them looks really neat as they look OEM...for having smoked headlights its possible that some cop who has nothing better to do will give u a ticket...but for painted headlights...he cant cuz it does not effect the amount of light output by your headlights

 

He said smoke not black out. if he did about 1 to 2 coats of nite shades, i think he'd be iight. ( do one coat about 3 - 4 feet away and one around 2 - 2.5, i think that will give ya good results, if u want practice, try it out on a piece of practice board

 

I'll be doing this very soon......as soon as my can of night shades gets here, I'll pull the lights out and smoke the headlights. I'll let everyone know what kind of impact it has and I'll of course post pics.

^right on! i only want to smoke my headlights because i haven't seen a single lancer do this yet. Plus i'll be getting a carbon fiber hood in a week or so, i think smoked headlights would look sweet with a cf hood. Oh btw yeah i know it's illegal...damn cali laws are hardcore many headers are illegal as well. I know more then a few people that have them on.

End Result: Had to buy new headlights. The light output was terrible and the nightshades stuff just doesnt adhere well to the headlight w/ the temperature

 

where can you purchase the thin film of tint? 30-40 bucks is a good price.

lancerlunatic...did you buy aftermarket hyper white bulbs? i new there would be a problem with the light output, so i figured if you bought aftermarket hyper whites they should be bright enough to look stock again.

 

i have HID's and it just distorted the light so much it aggrivated me. Not worth it in my opinion.

 

just got to a tintshop and get tints like 45 or 50%
