questions on painting some engine parts

I'm going to be painting some engine parts pretty soon and have a question. I ordered my intake polished and am wondering if I can paint that with a normal rattle can or should I look into powder coating everything? I'm afraid the paint from a rattle can wont stick to the polished surface but don't know for sure. Thanks.

When in doubt: Sand and prime it first. I wouldn't do that in the engine compartment though unless I were kinda desparate. If you can afford to powder coat then do it. It's by far your best option.

Indeed...powdercoating is the way to go, im powdering my valve cover, calipers, drums, and probably my sturt bar (if it gets here) this weekend.

But if you dont have a powder shop near by, RRM has a good deal on thier powdercoated covers and such

In my personal opinion, I would get everything powdercoated. A liitle more money, but a lot less hassle.

you can also use some engine paint in a spray can... you can pick it up at any auto store. It has a nice enamel shine, and is made for high temps. No probs, looks clean!
