brake dust

I know that this may be a silly question but does anyone have any ideas on how to cut down on the brake dust? Everytime I wash my car and spend time cleaning my rims, I'll drive the car and 25 miles later they are so dirty! What can I do??

Change pads to something like the Porterfield carbon/kevlars that RRM sells. The stock pads toss out a lotta dust I know. Try having white wheels.

They dont look great with aftermarket wheels, but those brake dust sheilds from pepboys or whereever work pretty well. I had them on my jeep to keep mud and stuff off the rotors, so its good for that too.

Those covers also hinder brake cooling, but that generally shouldn't be an issue for most people's Lancers. Just had to mention that though.

Quit driving in typical woman fashion. Gas to the floor and both feet on the brakes. Or if you drive normal do what I do and get some carnauba wax and wax the wheels real good and the dust doesnt stick, if it does a shot from the garden hose takes care of it.

Airline, next time spare us all the sexist comment. The rest of the post was at least informative. The pads toss out a lot of brake dust. The only pads I've seen that are worse are on the Ford Focus.

Yes, Ford pads kick up a ton of dust.

Even better than carnuba wax on wheels is metal polish. It takes a while, but results are worth it, especailly coming out of winter.

the reason I said the carnauba wax is because it is totally non-reactive to what ever it is applied to. I dont know about metal polish cuz my wheels have some sort of clear coat on them and I want that coat to stay there. Be safe its only brake dust

You know what, I'm tired of poeple on here telling other poeple what to say. It's a message board. If he wants to say women drivers suck he can. Quit being so damn insecure.

Insecure? I may be insecure, but this has nothing to do with it. stv, if you have a problem with me, or ANY member please use the PM system. If you cannot resolve it, please report to a moderator or KK (in the case that a moderator cannot help). Please keep the thread on topic. I'm not just tryin' to bust airline's *****, but there's no reason for a comment like that one. Even airline seemed to take it better than you did.

Well, thanks. Let's try to keep this on topic though. Brake dust brake dust brake dust...

Can anyone verify or deny whether metal polish will eat through clear coats or paint? I'm gonna give the carnuba a shot. Hell, maybe I'll test out the metal polish too. Worst comes to worse I get my wheels powder coated again, right? (I've scraped two slightly on curbs and bent one when the Cross Island Parkway attacked me so it's not like they couldn't use a little attention anyway).
