Should i put stock wheels on for winter
Should i put stock wheels on for winter
i live south of chicago and drive 30min to work everyday...should i put stock tires back on for the winter or hope for a mild to no snow winter.
If you really want to get the most out of your wheels, if you live anywhere that sees snow over the winter, I would put the stockers back on. This is especially true if you plan on showing the car. Of course if you show you should avoid driving in the winter as much as possible, but some of us don't have that option. The snow isn't that bad, but it's mostly the salt and anti-skid materials that are used that do the most damage to your car and wheels. You'll get little nicks and scratches from that junk. Not to mention the fact that if you have a little fender bender due to some snow, if the wheels are damaged, at least it's not your good wheels. I've always swapped my wheels in the winter and I probably always will. In fact I'm getting ready to do it within the next few days.

You can try what i do, i bought a set of rims from my buddy for $200 with tires. I live in utah, and the first year i was there it snowed about 4ft. Lancer made it though. By the way, i had winter tires on the rims. Just make sure you hose em off every once in a while.

It's not going to hurt them performance-wise, but no matter what type of rims you have, they will most likely get chipped/nicked during the winter. Even if there was a chance that the wheels wouldn't be damaged, why would you want to take it with such an expensive investment?

Ha ha thats like saying "should I take the this barral out of my mouth, the gun is loaded" Yes of course you should, why would you think of running summer only tires in the winter. If you get more then 2 sugnifficant snow falls a year then I also suggest that you go with winter tires instead of all seasons. Or at least a good year tripple tread or Micilen Hydro Edge.
just remember that with winter comes not only snow but huge pot holes. With your rims wrapped in thin performance wheels, you're more likely to bang em up and dent them. Salt and all the crap on the roads after snow storms also does wonders to screw them up. Go back to stock.

I already made the mistake of keeping my rims on during a winter.
