Pa Tint Law
Can someone please tell me what the tint laws of pa are!!! what is the legal limit??? I have 35% on my front and 12% on the rear. Got a ticket today and cop said remove everything. (it looked liek to me they just got the light guns and were just testing it out cause the cop was being taught by another cop) but anyway when they used the gun they got 35 in the fornt and 7 in the rear
Please let me know, i attached a picture of how my car looks.

hopefully this site will help you http://www.berksweb.com/users/dmv/tint/
As a matter of law the police department is required to tell you, if you are ticketed, how you are in violation of the law. What level of tint you are allowed to have is also a matter of public record.
You can do a simple search on google with the phrase, tint PA. You should find something. Also you might just want to check with the guys that did the tint... they have know the law better than the police sometimes...

I think this homework should of been done before you had your windows tinted, I verified my limits for NJ before I told them to go ahead and do it. If they told you it was 100% legal, then they are liable, if not, then I hate to say it but you **** out of luck!

The site I checked also said 70% on the front and rear. That means 70% of light should pass through the glass. That makes both your front and rear illegal. You could try and fight it, but that would be kinda silly. It's not really a subjective thing. 70% is legal, you have 35/12%. That's no where close. You're gonna lose.
Sucks.

I agree. Mine is slightly illegal and the tint shop has signs all over it that say tint at your own risk.
From what gather from the PA law is 25-30% light transmittance reasonably allows a person to see the interior. It says there are no established numbers rather the cops have to make the decision on whether they can see the interior. I doubt the 35 (transmits more light than 30) on your front windows threw the flag but 12 on the backs? C'mon you need the Batman spot light to see into the interior through that. Im sure if you replaced all the 12 with 35 you would be off the hook.
Good luck finding someone to get that crap off the rear without ruining the defroster.

ok well as far as i know with the codes and law is that th rear u can tint as dark as u want as for the front ones if it did not come tinted stock then it illegal to tint if it did not come with the car stock. But hey u can fight it and give examples of suv's that have way darker than urs and also claim that when u got the windows tinted they did not give u the 411 on the law in tinting windows from the shop the judg wouls most likely says dismiss or say remove the front tint
the shop didnt tellme a think, i told them to make my tint legal when it was done!!! oviously they didnt. Also can i get ticketed and cited for my windows when i'm not driving or in my car? i was in an alley on the side talkign with my friend who was showing me his new paint job. and the cop just pulled up got out of his car went to my car and ask if that was my car i said yes and he was liek licsnes and registration please, i was liek wtf?!@# then he was liek ur getitng a ticket for your tint, and before they even used a light meter he said i have to remove all my tint, and then he proceed to tell me i must remove all my decals... i thought the law was no more then 6 inches from the top?? my are only 5, and its just writing. i got pulled over before for my underbody lights and the cop was just liek hey turn them off and said nothign bout the decals or the tint, and they been on since i had the car! and i drive thru the same place everyday at the same time with the same cops sitting there. i'm goin to try to fight it! cause u can see in my front windows and windshield clear as day and even at night!!! hell if they just want me to lighten my rearwindows i'll do it but i anit payign the $300 to have it all removed!!! that bs. and hell if i do lose i'm ****ign goin after the tint shop that did it, cause they wont tel anyone what is legal!!!
Ok as far as the law goes if ur car is off and the car is parked the cop can issue u ticket but most likely most cops would look the other way but as ur car goes u can have limo tint for all the law cares on the rear windows. but as far the front windows if thier not tintted then ur not suppose to tint but u did. So if the judge over rules u. You can testify that the shop did not warn u of the law and policies of tint and since they didnt warn u u can either sue the tinit shop to re do ur tint to legal tint or remove the tint at their cost u understand so far. I did some research at my law school and it says u can sue and counter sue depending under the situation but in ur case just sue for reinbersement of tint

Tint under 30% is technically NOT ILLEGAL in Pennsylvania unless an officer testifies that the tint prevented him from seeing inside. Even glass tinted as low as 15% allows seeing inside of a vehicle.
However, it seems that at below 25% or 30% it is no longer a clear-cut black and white issue, but part of a legal 'grey area'.
This lack of a specific definition works for the misinformed police, and against citizens with legal tint.
Most of the other States have explicitly defined percentage requirements in their statutes in accordance with FMVSS205, and most allow as low as 25-30%. If and when our Legislators change the law, it will almost certainly define a similar percentage.
That is why, for the purposes of this discussion, we have made a very conservative estimate that tint below 25% or 30% may be illegal.
You are illegal. Have you ever been to traffic court? The cops have an almost foolproof script that they read the judge everytime for every traffic citation. You will lose, they have done this a million times, and have refined it to an art form. You better just take it off, because if you dont Im sure it goes to warrant and that would be really stupid. Also if you take it off for court and replace it afterward chances are you are gonna run into that cop again and you get to start all over again cuz he already hates you. I dont know what to tell you dude the PA cops are working within the law as written and there is no way you can fight the law. The tint shop is going to **** you up if you try to prosecute them and Im willing to bet somewhere it says on a recipt or something that they are not liable.
