i tried searching for an answer and of course i couldnt find one. anywho, the weather here is cold and its starting to sleet/snow. i was wondering if the cold weather can ruin carbon fiber. i have a carbon fiber hood and sadly i dont have a garage to keep my car in

If you can take off the hood, do it. I use my stock hood during winter cause of all the gravel and salt on the roads.

I dunno about the effect winter weather would have on carbon fiber, but perhaps you should get a car cover? Pep Boys has a catalogue that compares all the covers they carry for things like protection from different kinds of weather. It's no garage, but it's better than nothing.

Cold won't do anything to the fiber, but the salt, and sun pose a greater threat. I'm sure cold may make the carbon a tad more brittle, but that's just an assumption.
yea, i still have my stock hood. i just gotta get the time to do it cause ive been workin my a$$ off.
i would buy a car cover, but i cant see myself taking it out everytime i go somewhere.

car cover wont work.... Its winter, the car is very dirty. A car cover will just scratch the hell out of the paint when you take it off or put it on.
I had my CF hood on for one winter. no effects other then one rock bashed the front pretty good. sun kills it more then anything. I take all my CF off now during winter just because of rocks and salt, like Amby said. Takes about 2mins to swap a hood.

Stock for the winters is a good idea... Like was stated earlier, the salt and the sun will eat away at it.

Weather does not help but cold is usually not the issue. We clear coat parts to insure they hold up best. Exposy resined parts usually do not like the sun and tend to get green over time.

I've had my CF hood on for three Chicago winters now. I had it clear coated before I orginally mounted it and have had NO problems whatsoever. I would definately suggest having it cleared. It looks much better, too.

Im curious as well. They have to sand all the clear off then re-clear it. The clear that comes on the hoods from VIS or Seibon, etc usually suck. Getting a better coat of clear will look better and hold up longer. I wouldnt think about re-clearing it until the stock coat is yellowed or cracked.

I unfortunately couldn't tell you. My body guy repainted the ENTIRE car, the new body kit, cleared the CF hood, and mounted the body kit all for under $400. It was a sick deal and he did an amazing job. He put about five layers of clear on the CF, so it looks amazing. There's a link below if you want to see. This guy saw minor inperfections I didn't even notice, which says a lot. If any of you are in Illinois I can get you his info. Good luck.
