hood scoop question

Ive noticed quite a few people have the vent over the driver side of the hood on lancers and even other places. My question is what are the chances that rain or water could get in there and into your intake and possibley lock your $hit up due to sucking in water. hope i worded this right. Any experts please help.

what youre seeing is the evo style hood, its has a vent right over the intake. Most filters are going to be oil coated anyway so youre not going to suck water in. and the only way to suck enough water in to hydrolock is to submerge the intake pipe.

True and true... Unfortunately, some are using a DIY kit that doesn't use a K&N/AEM/RMR/ etc "re-usable" filter and they will encounter problems...

Well, that depends on whether you want to have a scoop to pull air into the intake directly, meaning you'd have the scoop just forward of the filter, or if you want a scoop to bring in more cold air for the intake to take in, in which case, the scoop need not be within dripping range of the intake.

search!!! this has been covered a million times before. any water that does get in through the hood scoop won't even penetrate the surface of the filter, oiled or otherwise, the rain drops are to big.
The only way your gonnna hydrolock is if you submerge the intake. eg, throw your car in the ocean

awesome guys thanks for your quick help, just that i had a friend with a civic with a short ram intake and he had a vent over his intake and on the way home from work one day it was raining hard and he somehow did suck in water from that vent and hydrolock occured and well the end. just wanted to make sure that wont happen if i put a new hood or a vent on my whip. What could have caused his to do that . . . . . .

Water should not be an issue. Spalshing water will not be a problem.

I had a cheap *** fiberglass evo style hood on my car and I had the intake 'snorkel' tube off, and the factory replacement filter for 3+ years. Smart? Probably not, but I have never had a problem. Thats all now changed, but it was fine for a while.
