Its going to be very difficult to leave the VW scene but seeing pics of your car and reviews is making me want one more and more. Its a really toss up between a new GTI or an 08 lancer. I guess i have to decide 200hp turbocharged engine with less options or 154hp with a crapload of sick options.

I went the options route... I think it will be easier to teak a couple more horses out of this engine in the end.

I was a fan of the GTI until they showcased the transmission on a show I was watching... I'm a big 5-speed guy, and these hybrid auto/manual trannies are really messing things up. I'd say go with the GTS Lancer for the options and you can tweak out ponies later.

I have driven a couple Acuras with the tiptronic shifting, where you tap the stick for up and down. Only issue is it truly acts like an automatic. It waits about 1-2 seconds after you tap the stick then it shifts...but the RPMs drop and have to climb back up like a traditional automatic would shift.

I have also driven a Maserati. A friend of mine owns one. It really has paddle shifters on a "Manual" Trans. Even thought it has a stick like an automatic it is still considered a manual because the car has a computer controlled clutch that when you hit the paddle shifter it forces the clutch in, shifts the gear for you, then lets the clutch back out. It all works very fast.

Then Lancer feels more like the Maserati because it keeps the engine reved when it "shifts” Makes for more power...I am very happy with it. I have driven manuals my whole life and I am really enjoying this car...biggest complaint I have about automatics is the nasty shift points...well this car does not have that problem because there are none.
fair enough, i thought that was the difference with the two (now learnt there's three) models, so how you you like the paddle shifting, i personally dislike tiptronic because its the same as automatic in my opinion and it can shift for you if you forget..

Night pictures

Thanks for the pictures, especially the night shots. The inside is definitely like something out of a fighter jet.

The shots of the front in particular are very interesting, it has a very mean looking face! Not a bad thing, esp. from a sports car point of view.

If you have any more details on the FAST key, that'd be nice. How does it work if you have to leave the car for service or with a valet? The brochure makes some mention of a valet key but it isn't clear. That's the only option I haven't yet committed on but it sounds interesting. Just curious how secure it is.

The key Fob itself has four buttons on it.
Lock, Unlock, Truck, Panic.
(Since having the car I have never pushed one of those buttons)
It also has a little lock/switch on the back. Once hit the Key ring top can be pulled off to reveal a key. That is just in case the battery dies on your fob.

Once the fob is within 30 inches of the car you can grab a hold of one of the two front doors and it will unlock just that door by default. It has some type of heat detection in the handles. The manual says that if you have gloves on it may not work. It does not work on the back doors.

The truck also has a small button on the hatch just over the Lancer emblem that you can push to pop the truck without hitting the fob. Works very well.

Once inside the car just keep the fob in your pocket the ignition has no place for a key all you need to do is turn the knob that the car starts. If you battery fails in the fob all you need to do is pull the knob off the steering column to reveal a spot for a key.

If you want to lock the car you just get out shut the doors. You must shut all the doors for it to work. (Not like my Jetta where if one door is open it will still lock the rest and then lock that one when it is closed) This car has a long beep to warn you it did not lock the doors and that one is open. Once all are closed there is a little black button right on the handle of front doors. Hit it and the car locks.

In the Nav system there is also a couple settings for time out of the fastkey and other settings I like. Which are unlocking all four doors when the car is placed in park, and unlocking all four doors when you grab one of the front doors. Makes it nice for the whole family getting in and out of the car. (Warning: As my wife would say****this setting is not good if someone is chasing you through a parking lot or if you stop some place that is not safe and you place the car in park...)

If you leave the car while it is running with the fob in your pocket it the car will start beeping. If you hit the lock button on the door I think it stops beeping and is ok sitting there without the fob in it. Last night I messed with it some more. The car will just keep running with the Fob out, once turned off the car will not restart unless the fob is back inside. So I guess that would be great for Valets

There is only one more feature that would have been really handy here, Automatic Start. I have an after market unit installed on my Jetta and it is sooo nice. I plan on doing one on this car also the only problem is I will have to carry another key fob just for the auto start. Plus with the whole key fob in the car to start it thing, I am not sure how it will work.

Most of these remote entry systems use a 40 bit rolling code and I am sure these use the same....so it is secure enough for York PA...lol

Here some pictures of the fob...and pull out key.

I will say the new lancers are much nicer than the old lancers. Now for the yet to come Evo 10 I am not so sure.
