today i went out and dropped some cash on a spray gun and a pint of single-stage urethane for my VII wing. i was going to get it done professionally but i figured "why not?" when i bought my new compressor the other day... i probably could have had a shop paint the wing for me for less money than i spent today, but now i can say 1. i did the painting myself, and 2. i'll paint your (car part) for (dollars)!

i'm letting it hang out (literally) in the basement overnight so that the paint can do its thing... after 4 hours i could have put it back on my car, but i've learned all too well that when the paint isn't completely dry and it's humid overnight you're going to end up repainting. i can't wait to get the wing back on the car. it looks so bland without it i think.

i also got my porterfield R-4s in the mail today and that meant i had to get to it and put them in along with my new brembo slotted rotors i got earlier in the week. i got a good price on the rotors from tire rack and as usual they shipped them zippy quick. i ordered the pads direct from porterfield, got a discount for being a member of the SCCA (even if i'm just a temporary member... they said it didn't matter) and i paid just over $160 for the pads shipped. a little expensive but they don't make better pads than these.


tolerances were real tight inside the calipers and there was a little rubbing once i put everything back together but after a little driving around to bed all the stuff in the rubbing was gone and the car was stopping great. you can sneeze on the brake pedal and the car stops. well, locks up the tires and slides.
i'll try to get some pictures of my car tomorrow with the repainted wing. for now the shots in my basement will have to do. for my first time ever painting with a real deal spray gun i think i did a pretty good job. it's not perfect, but i'm also not a professional painter. there's a little orange peel and in a spot on both sides of the end pieces of the wing there's a place where i went a little too light--but it still looks a thousand times better than my rattle can black did. there is also a seam on each edge of the wing center piece that i only noticed after painting it yellow. oh well... at least i got rid of the seams on the side pieces, right?

like i said, i'm not a professional. compared to the streaks and lines that i had in the wing for months when it was black when my neighbor and i rattle canned it... this is a HUGE improvement. i may repaint it in the future, and i may also do two-stage. all i'd have to buy next time is the paint.

btw, the center of the wing looks "off" because the lighting is different in the laundry room, it's a weird flourescent bulb that washes everything out. it's the same color as the rest of the stuff.

i'm putting it back on the car soooooon!

It's a good idea, everyone has to start somewhere..don't know I would be that bold and start with my cars spoiler...but props man! I wish I had the ***** to do it.

I bought mine from RRM. I dont think they have them anymore. I bought it almost 2 years ago. I decided to go a different route and got a evo VIII wing and sold my VII to Atilla.

you didn't even paint the wing! and here i've painted it twice! 
the black did look nice--but the coat was very uneven and it could have been done a lot better. i think the solid color gives it more of a "true" evo VII look... now that i can paint i'm kicking around the idea of picking up a RMR type 2 lip with some more paint.
i'm going to try to get some pics of the wing on the car later tonight once the sun isn't so strong. it's at least 90 degrees out... ughh.
edit: here are some pictures. like i said, it's not perfect but i am pleased with the overall result. i had the rear bumper painted at a body shop shortly after i bought the car since the previous owner put a nice idiot mark on there--the paint i have mixed at the custom shop i go to now matches the Y01 WAY better than the shop did, you can tell more of a variation in the bumper at certain angles than you can tell in the wing!
