Lancer paint issue with license plate
Lancer paint issue with license plate
Does anyone have an issue specifically with their license plate scratching the lower lip on the OZ version or even the other trims? If you guys do, please post a pic so I can show the Mitsubishi rep. when I see him next. All they want to do is give me a bottle of touch up paint and forget the issue. I need some tangible proof that it just isn't MY Lancer. I will keep you guys posted with what the guy says. And I will get a pic tonight of what I am talking about as soon as I get home. Thanks...

That happened to me....you know why it happens, because the dealer puts on their license plate holder which keeps the plate from being blown onto the lower lip and scratching it. When you remove the dealer plate holder it scratches the lower lip. I ended up putting on the AEM plate holder (much to my despise) so that the plate wouldn't **** up the lower lip anymore. I'll take a picture and send it to you.

Well, that happened to me also, but I found a remedy to the problem.
The screws have this large sphere rubber boot that the screws themselves screw into. Here is what you do:
Put on your license plate and screw in the screws. Keep screwing the heck out the the things. What happens is that the screws squeeze the rubber boots on the bumber and the more you squeeze it the less play the license plate will have. So, I used my drill to screw the heck out of it and it never happened again.
Oh also, I removed the scratches that it left by using Meguier's Body scratch and swerl remover. Looks the same as the moroon polish bottle. It removed the scratchs and made it back to normal. NOTE: If you use this scratch remover, make sure you wax the area a couple of times to prevent oxidation. This scratch remover is pretty strong but works GREAT! I highly recommend it.

Yeah... I didn't even notice that the license plate was scratching the front lip until it was too late and a friend told me. The dealer installed my license plate and did a half *** job.
I just fixed it, it only took me 25 to 35 minutes to screw the heck out of it and fix the paint. It looks worse than it is because the license plate scuffs the lip because it is metal. Once you clean it they aren't very big/deep scratches. Then I just used the scratch remover from Meguir's and it was good to go! Good Luck!

honestly your best bets to solve this problem since we are all tuners anyways are threefold.
1) Mount your license plate below the openning (see Boeturbos Lancer and fill and paint the old holes
2) Mount your license plate off to the side (since we are all buying intercoolers [RIGHT?] you'll have to move it anyways to allow airflow and biatches to get to the intercooler.
3) Buy a new bumper and mount the license plate with the least amount of problems
4) Take off all your plates and drive it like you stole it. When the cops lay the spike strip, pop holes in your ES-100's, break your arm while handcuffing you and take you off to jail, no license plates will be the least of your worries!!!!

zlancer,
If you go out and remove the rubber boots you will see that is how you use it. The screws will screw completely through the boot. This is how you use the boot and screws. I had another car with these same boots. It only squeezes the boot against the bumper. The threads can't be over tightened or stripped because they go completely out of the boot.
