+1 to Amby, we don't want to see you waste your money, but if you want to go another way with some crazy idea, and it works, I have no problem believing you. I'm not sure what you're talkin about when you say that whenever other ppl do somethin they are told that they don't know what they're talkin about. I've seen people thrown out stupid ideas and get told that they're dumb, but never been called dumb after they have accomplished something. I mean, if you want to invest you're money into something you feel worthwhile, you go for it, but again, to go back and agree with Amby, ur giving an old man a jersey and telling him to go play basketball in the NBA dude, ur engine is topping out.
All this being said, if you're going to do it, do it right, don't cut any corners. If reliability is an issue get new rods and new pistons. Upgrade the head as best you can (better valves, valve springs, retainers, etc.), get everything professionally installed and get it tuned conservatively.

RRM's Stage 2 P&P'ed Head
RRM Camshaft (the more aggressive)
RRM Ported IM
RRM Ported TB
Custom 2.25" Downpipe
SAFC Neo tuned for these mods
And might do a couple suspension and a new grille in the near future.
I have confidence in what I am doing. I am not going to be tearing the streets up but it will give me a fun/reliable DD without too much money into it.
I would still do the rods and pistons both for reliability and to make the car a better NA car. With the low stock compression (9.5:1) you won't make a lot of power NA, this is why hondas are relatively high compression (10:1 or higher). For a camshaft I would go with RPW not RRM, RRM makes great turbo parts but for NA RPW is king. I and others do not like the idea of using the same cam profile for an NA motor and a turbo motor, there are compromises that reduce the power either would make with a profile specific for their application. For tuning I would go with something more complete than the SAFC, maybe a greddy emanage or even a Haltech unit.
I would recommend the mirage IM also, have the port and polished, and you could sound better, and get more air to throttle body, thus increasing power, not to mention the pretty kick *** sound
I had already tried the 4G93 manifold and a lot of people have luck with them but I didn't like the powerband whatsoever. I would love to do high compression pistons but wouldn't the install on those be insane? How much more work is it to put pistons in? I will look into RPW for the cams.
hey i just wanted to say, that i have also beat a couple cars that u r talking about, but thats b4 i got my rims, i had beat a civic ex,mustang v6,integra ls, the reason i beat the integra is becuz they have no top end(but ur car looks (by the video)slower than mine was so i dont think you can beat those car with those big rims)i can really close to losing the teggy but he came only to my fender, but i would have to say dont even bother fixing up the lancer for power, its not worth it , just buy a lil project honda shell(300) and just build an ls-v(b18 block with b16 head,500) and it should run high 13's at na, thats what im going to do

Cool, I think though that pistons + install just for them might be $1500+. We will see, I would love to do the RPW 11.5-1 or even the 11.0-1 as that would make the motor real peppy when combined with everything else.
11.0:1 is probably the highest you can go without getting into serious fuel issues, ie. needing 94 or higher octane fuel.
sa_town_ridah, beating a car isn't as simple as just beating it, you have to actually race it. This means from a stop and with two competent drivers. If we went by just passing someone, my WRX is slower than a Dodge 1500 because yesterday I was passed by one. I was also in 5th gear at about 2000 RPM. According to the chart I posted an integra is a 16 second car. An NA lancer (without a lot of mods) is not.

According to the info available they are 16 second cars. A mustang should also be faster than a lancer, key word, should, as far as we know the driver was horrible.
