can you easily take them off yourself or do you have to get them professionally taken off

Get a blowdryer, some dental floss, and some Goo Gone (or any adhesive remover).

It's really easy. Heat them to melt the glue. Use the dental floss to "cut" them off the car, then just use the Goo Gone to remove any leftover adhesive.

No. Many people have done this. Go into the How To section, and look up the thread called 'Debadging the rear' or something similar.

I didn't even heat the emblem, i just took some tooth floss and moved it back and forth under it, it came off pretty easy and then some rubbing alcohol to get the stuff under the badge cleaned.
