1 question about debadging

i know i know we've all been through this.....

hell, there is even a 52 reply thread about it....

i was wondering though, the "lancer" and "ES" badges and "" insignias are easy to take off.

the thing is, when i first got my car, the dealer stuck an ugly sticker of their own on the top left of the trunk...and its fugly as hell man. like i said, the badges are easy to remove, but this is like an alluminum STICKer, not a badge.

do u think i can just remove this with a blowdryer/goo gone and other regular methods?

cuz this sticker is thick, and it looks like its going to peel off the paint..... i have gut feeling it will, its like real tightly sealed on it.... the badges were wobbly and easily removable... stuck with double sided tape, not the sticker...

i dunno what i'm supposed to do with it....

damn ugly sticker..

it should remove the same way, maybe just make sure its really really warm before trying to remove it that way the glue is really gooey... but I never took off any stickers from my car.. i told the dealership that they would have to pay me if they were gonna put stickers on my car since it would be free advertisement... so they didnt even give me a license plate cover... nice of them!

i'd give the blow dryer a shot, and after a while the badge still doesnt wiggle or begin to move then i wouldn't want to mess with it. The paint on the lancer is sooooo think it prolly could rip it right off.

It doesn't matter what the decal itself is made of, what matters is what's used to adhere it to your car. My guess is it's 3M tape or something similar, so you should be fine removing it w/ a blowdryer and floss.

yea, tahts what i did, when i was buying the car, i told them to take it off and they said they wouldn't or something like they couldn't. it seemed like they didn't want to risk ****ing up the car i guess.

y'all know how much temperature the car paint can reach up to before actually causing damage to it?

im' feeling that this sticker takes more heat than the badges....
dont wanna over do it and take a big chunk of paint off.

I think that's a load of horse ****. The only thing that sticker is for is FREE ADVERTISING. They have 100% no power and right in keeping that thing on. Most likely the company has a meeting with all new hires encouraging any lie they can muster up to keep it on the car. Do what I do when the dealership is on a power trip. Call Mitsubishi Motors of America and *****. Plain and simple, *****ing to daddy gets things done. It's the American way after all. When I first got my OZ, the dealership took almost a full month to get ahold of a replacement Yokohama tire because I had a nail in my sidewall(the Lancer had just come out and the tires at the time were newly made just for the U.S. Lancer). The dealership still expected me to pay even after going without a car for a month. I called Mitsubishi, *****ed, and received a call from the dealership 15 MINUTES later from the Manager himself not only to let me know they would pay, but also to kiss my harry ***. What a world we live in. Give a call, they take care of their customers and I'm sure they will make the dealership remove it if you so choose.

Although I agree that the dealer should not put the sticker on if you don't want it, they should take it off if it is already there. As for the LANCER logo, if you want to take that off, be careful. I took mine off without really researching the process, after using floss there was still adhesive tape on my trunk. When I finally got it all off, the paint around the lettering was mildly scrached, so you can still see the outline of LANCER. I have to take my car in and get it fixed (bastards keep hitting me in parking lots) and I'm going to ask them about buffing it out. The hairdryer will work, but a heatgun would work better.

The dealer sticker was really easy to peel off. All I did was ***** a corner up with a box cutter (very carefully) and it peeled right off.

I wouldnt use a heatgun, the temps of a heatgun can bubble our paint, mitsu has really cheap paint on this car... stick with a blowdryer..

Yea second that stay away from the heatgun. There is a product similar to goo be gone that has a plastic wedge included and it worked pretty good for me getting the dealer advertisement off without scratching the paint. Kinda temporarily deactivates the glue allowing you to reuse the sticker. Any glue left on the paint wipes right off. Do not use anything sharp anywhere near the paint. My dealership was such a hosebag there was no way I was leaving there sh*& on my Lancer.
