My car (Pics + Vids)
Well we have 87, 89, and 93. I NEED 89 and for the 10 cents a gallon I go with the 93 to be on the safe side. But this isn't really the issue here... Thanks for the answer amby. Is it just on some cars that if you block off the EGR it will technically make more power? I honestly couldn't feel a difference either way though so oh well.
Do not use 93 just for the hell of it, it's pissing money down the drain and actually harming the car. Unless you are tuned for it, your car can't use it and just treats it like 87. I think the whole idea behind the EGR block off is if you are making a lot of power/injecting exceedingly hot exhaust gases into the intake tract. On a car like yours, it's a waste of time and not worth having a CEL IMO.
I honestly didn't think so either but looking at the ECU flash page

It shows 2 different sets of tables. Air/fuel- low octane Ignition-low octane Air/fuel-high octane Ignition- high octane.

Hmmm that's weird cause I've never heard of the ECU switching between the two. Maybe it's a remnant of the programming, ie. the same ECU is used for different cars regardless of whether they can make use of the features.
looks good. as far as the egr. i have a neon with a 420A that i built up and i blocked the egr off with a "kit" wich was basically two plates and this completly removed the valve. my pcm was mopar performance with elimintated egr codes. so as far as the idle i was all good. you should be all set idle wise if u remove the whole system. until you put on a heavy duty cam like i did (crane 14). then you have a 4banger that idles harder then most v8's
common quote i get
Random Person: "hey dude your car sounds like its about to die"
Guy with Cams: "oh no my friend, its more alive then you can ever imagine"

Ok I read through that thread and it seems that the low octane map is not what you think, it's the fail-safe map the ECU switches to if it thinks you have a bad tank of gas/something wrong with your motor. The high octane map is the map you use everyday, it doesn't adjust to a higher octane.
gotcha amby. Good reading. Me doing chemistry homework > everything else right now
. But anyway, back to topic of me being excited that i have a decent looking, fun to drive car... Next step is an evo but until then the base lancer will hold me over.

This is correct, it is a "limp" mode so to speek.
