DYNAMAT people: got a question.

So ever since ive gotten 19s on my 08 with 35 series tires, ive been getting a lot of road noise. im thinking about getting dynomat. where's a good place to get a lot? do i need a lot? where do they go? under the floor mat, in between the doors? mostly importantly with people who has them is there really a big difference in sound coming through? any suggestions or comments will be appreciated. thanks

DYNOMAT is not going to help you at all. Should have though and done your research before getting 19" on a car like Lancer.

Only thing you can do now is wait until you run out of your current tires and get a new ones with 45 or better profile next time.

Why won't Dynomat help with road noise?

To the OP - Here's a great website to help you. http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/

Read the link. There are cheaper alternatives that will do what you want. It also will be helpful when you're ready to install.

It should help a little bit. Trunk area and under the carpet. maybe take the doors apart and line the doors. Either way. the noise is coming from the tire choice. Get a quieter tire and a larger tire if you can. The smaller the tire. generally, the louder it is. Coupled with a car like the lancer. road noise becomes an issue as your finding out. haha

it will on your spedometer and odometer. You probably could get away with 40 series. Not sure how much room you have.

Uh the 45/35 doesn't refer to an actual height, it refers to a ratio. Depending on what the stock size is and what the new tires are you could have lost tire height/wheel diameter or gained tire height/wheel diameter. 19s are a massive wheel for any car let alone a lancer. If you wanted a quiet and smooth ride, you should have stuck with 18s or 17s. Dynomatting might help but don't forget it also adds weight to the car.

Even 18s look small on the new Lancer...so I don't blame you for going bigger, and I definitely wouldn't go smaller. If I could afford it, I'd be getting some 19s as well.

As far as road noise...oftentimes specific tread design causes increased road noise. It's probably the specific tires you're using as opposed to the size of the tires. The size would make the ride noticably rougher, but I wouldn't think it would add a whole lot of noise.

Dynomat is expensive and heavy. I wouldn't do it. Personally, I would just deal with the road noise...and know that my 19s look way cooler than 16s, 17s, and 18s.

Dynamat is only used as a sound barrier between the noise crated INSIDE the car & your seating space. because it is onesided, it will not prevent any OUTSIDE noise from entering for the main simple reason of: your window glass. the glass & window/door seals on lancers are thin allowing noise to penetrate.

to give u a comparison on how dynamat works imagine the interior car sound similar to shaking a single match in a matchbox- it's loud & bouncing around all over the place. now take the same matchbox this time full of matches. it makes noise but is severely reduced & more centrally located.

Dynamat comes in bulk kits starting at around $200 for 36sqft. it weighs about 35-50lbs & would be enuff to seal ur trunk, doors, & roof.

if u want a quiet riding car, next time buy a Mercedes, Lexus, or other highend luxury car. my S550 is so quiet, i sometimes don't hear ambulances/fire trucks/police cars...

i dunno if this helps,but...my tire/rim friend told me thread design proves as a factor of noise...the more vertical lines on the thread the quieter the ride,if you have something like those pointed ones shaped as an arrow,(tire with rotation mark) it would generate more road noise...well...that's what he said...anyways...19's look cool man!

I have to sort of disagree w/ this one. I have been in the car audio industry for the better portion of my life and I have to say that sound dampening/dynomat fat mat etc. does dampen exterior noises also. TRue it will not be like a Lexus, BMW, Mercades, etc. With many of my prev. vehicles I have dampened I have noticed a large difference w/ how quiet the interior is. I would have to say that a Ford Ranger had the biggest difference above all the ones I have done. It was so quiet, I would rather watch a movie in it rather than a custom theater room.
