2008 Lancer Carbon Fiber Grill installed..
So not the same thing. Our grills come from 1 mold. We can only make 2 a week out of it. It is a whole different story, not to mention wrapping in Real Carbon will cost you same or more but..... Everyone has their point of view and budget. It is just that you make it sound so easy in print. Doing it and getting the same effect, (our grill goes back more than 3 inches so you get to see a lot of carbon surface) is different that just writing it.

RRM is not some large corporation like AEM or Megan. They are a small tuning company that has made quite a name for themselves over the years in Racing and aftermarket support for a decent list of cars. Not to mention building cars for a few manufacturers. Look up Rob Talini and Road Race Engineering. They may not use the most expensive carbon fiber you can buy, however you have to understand carbon fiber is not cheap at all. Like 3-4 years ago it was $80/sq foot. I'm guessing thats more like $100-120 now, and that's for the cheaper quality. I do not think they are in a position to mass produce something like this with the way the import market has gone. Well all markets really.
I do not know what grade RRM uses however the splitter, spark plug cover and mirror covers I have look great. Well splitter looked great, but I live in a big city and kinda broke part of it. Looking into having it repaired but im sure its a lost cause. And the winters have kinda ruined the clear coat on the mirror covers but that can be fixed easy. But no discoloration on the clear like you see on some cheaper hoods that have yellowed.

Thanks. For the record, we use the best carbon Fiber can get for the job with the right weave and pattern people expect. It is the resin that we use and the clear coat that make it even more high end part and stops the yellowing or greening out of cheap CF parts you see from overseas. Well worth it. We only have 1 mold too so we can only make 2 CF parts a week of a certain part. That means, the price is a bit higher or we would never keep up. The molds cost $5000 so I do not plan to make another mold. We will work with the 1 mold and continue like this. If I get a lot of inventory (never seems to happen) then I will throw a sale on the parts. Thanks

I wasn't bashing your carbon fiber Rob, just stating some facts. Like the carbon fiber usually used on say, entire frames/body panels for cars like ferrari's or nobles is not the same stuff you guys use. Both are carbon fiber but there are drastic differences in the 2 products as far as what I remember reading said. Things like tightness of the weave, # of strands used in the weave, and if it is considered Intermediate Modulus or not. There are quite a few factors that determine the grade, these are just a couple. I want to say RRM is using 3K version but may be using 6k. I don't really see them using anything around 12k or higher. That stuff gets expensive.

I'm sure they use the same mold for the fiberglass and carbon fiber versions. From what I've seen of fiberglass molding, you start with the mold and add a protective layer over it, lay down the resins and let it harden then remove it from the mold for finishing work. Mold is left clean because of the protective layer.
We do use the same mold for both pieces. What that means is that the FG pieces come out superior to most any other FG parts due to the fact that the mold has to be the best quality because it must also turn out the Carbon Parts.

Aggressive is the key to the look. Whether you do CF or FG the deep inset of the grill makes it mean. The grill being up on the front edge stock looks lame. Our grill (mesh face is more than 3 inches back from the front. add a bumper cap too and it transforms the whole look of the front. Seriously.
