Here is a shot of my OEM tails with 'niteshades' over the back-up lights. I also cleared both taillights (completely), then wet sanded and buffed them. I did this well over a year ago (this is an old pic) and they have held up quite well.

jehuty.... dude 30 girt is wayyyyy too rough for the head lights.. lowest you should ever go is 800 but.... finish it off with 2000 and then use some plastic polish and they will be like new...
Man those look awesome, really makes me want to do that to mine as well cause you're right, that glue line is... unattractive to say the least

^If you try this let me also add that I gently cut along the line of the tape with a knife to make sure I didn't rip up any of the tint when I took the tape off. Dunno if it was necessary but I wanted to be safe. Wasn't hard to do, I was pretty plastered when I finally finished these lights and put them on the car, so I'm sure you can manage
