This is why I can't have nice things

Idiot acquaintance thought it'd be funny to climb on the roof of my car. Apparently he didn't know glass can't hold a 250 pound college student who's missing half a brain

He says he'll pay for it, but its 500 bucks to repair the current sunroof, or 200 some bucks to replace it with a cheaper manual one (and ditch this one which has the button press to open etc) as long as we can find one that fits in the current hole.

Any other options? I also thought it'd be cool to just ditch the sunroof for a cf roof or throw on a functional roof scoop (like one would even fit over that giant hole) but neither seem too practical

And of course the forecast for all of this week? rain

I say you get it in writing that he'll repair the current sunroof. I mean if you can afford a carbon fiber roof, go for it...

edit: ^may be an option, my deductible is lower than I originally thought. Will it be a problem if I didn't file a claim with the police or that I was there when it happened?

The ironic thing is if he fell through and got cut in half from the sharp glass his parents could sue you or maybe even mitsubishi.. The legal system these days sometimes does worse then good.
If it were me I wouldn't care how much it was to fix he either pays for repairs back to original condition or give you the money and you pay the rest for a full cf roof.

Why don't you go through insurance, tell them the knucklehead is liable and give his info to your insurance. Then your insurance will subrogate him for damages, and the claim will be non chargable.

just say someone threw a rock at your car and you found it like that when you woke up in the morning. insurance will cover it. make the idiot who did it give you 500 then pay the 250 deductible and pocket the profit!
